Our new perspective🎉: Beyond hypersaline systems, microbes in >70°C hot springs also drive efficient nitrogen removal, with anammox contributing up to ~50%. High temperature isn’t a barrier, it’s an overlooked nitrogen sink. 🌳https://t.co/DDM7AUKmi7
The 5th and final paper from my PhD is out now 🎉 🎓🌿
In the Coorong Lagoon, salinity is the key driver of sediment microbial community assembly: specialists dominate at hypersaline extremes, while generalists persist at intermediate salinity.

Our cat sat through every writing session, purred through every brainstorm, and never went to bed before we did.
Best co-author. 🐾
Brought him to #EGU—not literally, but in spirit.
The session chair and audience both smiled when his photo appeared.

Fresh off the press! 🧩Our saline lake N cycle series just got a new piece—this one zooms in on the oxic–anoxic interface and how salinity & DOC tug-of-war to shape N₂O emissions. A complex story worth telling! 🚀https://t.co/Ha2dd2Tvyg

Great synthesis by Chris & team on salinization and N cycling in lagoons—strong parallels with our lake studyon N₂O feedbacks under salt stress(Sun et al. 2023 https://t.co/p6qjdluTBx). Solid work from a team I've learned a lot from. Must-read for biogeochem folks!
⚠️ Our new review is out in Earth-Science Reviews! ⚠️
We looked at how climate change is transforming hypersaline coastal lagoons – and the microbes that run them.

This is why ecology must move beyond broad hypotheses and focus on repeatable, mechanistic principles. Precision tools like isotopes can help uncover how things work, not just what they are. It’s time for more rigor and #Reproducibility in ecological research. 🔬🌍 #Ecology
I am increasingly convinced we have a reproducibility crisis in Ecology because of the abuse of statistics and its explanatory power, particularly of complex models and analysis that many researchers do not fully understand. This paper should be an alarm call.
🌟 Celebrating Excellence in Ecology! 🌟
We are excited to recognize and congratulate Professor Erik Jeppesen, a distinguished SIL member, for receiving the ECI Prize 2024! 🏆
