This is a localization litmus test too many fail, because people often cannot separate what personally entertains them from proper translation.

The underlying principle for opposing localization changes is supposed to be "translate as accurately as possible to the original script," not "whatever tickles my funny bone."

That's the same exact preference-based standard localizers & their ardent defenders hold, which honestly leaves no true leg to stand on to argue against localization changes one doesn't like, because then it's just a matter of preference vs preference over what is faithful to the original Japanese.

They're not wrong because their edits aren't funny enough, they're wrong because it's unfaithful to the Japanese script. If a line wasn't meant to be "memorable" in the script, it's not a localizer's job to turn it into one, that creates a tonal difference between scripts.

Anyone whose standard is "it's better than the original because it's funny (or XYZ)" is not someone whose opinion on translation is of any value & does nothing to improve the quality of translation overall, it just helps perpetuate the problem. They're merely in favor of a different flavor of being unfaithful.

🚨 More details are being leaked in the course of the trial. The killer, Vickrum Digwa, called the police, not the ambulance, and lied that Henry had attacked him, was drunk, racially insulted him, and knocked off his turban.

Hampshire Police arrived (three policewomen) and immediately handcuffed Henry, even though he was lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds to his chest and legs. He repeated many times: "I've been stabbed", "I can't breathe".
