Gold plated terminals are great marketing but provide no meaningful performance benefit for many common applications. Worse they are more expensive by an order of magnitude than many practical alternatives.
Thoughts on Tesla FSD after using it:
1) More impressive tech demo than functional tool.
2) Too much confusion & weird decision making to trust
3) Cautiously useful for highway trips. Less so elsewhere.
4) Wildly overpriced currently
5) Likely years before moniker is accurate
Itโs absurd most electric vehicles do not permit powering a home during a power outage. It makes no sense to have a huge battery sitting unused when it could literally be a life saver.
When people say โthey donโt make em like they used toโ, my usual thought is how that is a most likely a good thing.
I like how old things look but I like how new things work. Cars (and most other things) today work soooo much better than 50 years ago.
Engineers often simply pick the most convenient fastener for a design without considering the indirect costs of a fragmented bill of materials and additional tooling for both assembly and maintenance.
An important lean design principle is minimizing both numbers + types of fasteners AND the number of tools needed.
1) Minimize need/number of fasteners
2) Minimize types & sizes of fasteners
3) Minimize tools to (un)install & maintain
Most management and self improvement books have a terrible signal to noise ratio. All but a few could be reduced to a single page without losing any meaningful content.
Beware efficiency books that are themselves inefficient with their message.
The primary product any engineer produces is documentation for someone else describing how to build something.
Yet most engineers receive scant training on how to do this and shockingly few do it well even after many years on the job.
