🇩🇪 Rheinmetall has unveiled its new GMF 140 next-generation guided-missile frigate design. @RheinmetallAG

According to the company, the 40-metre, 6,000+ tonne guided missile frigate is designed to deliver unmatched capability across the full spectrum of modern naval warfare.

GMF 140 combines advanced air and ballistic missile defence, anti-submarine warfare(ASW) and long-range strike capabilities within a highly survivable, digitally integrated and minimum manned platform. The design is optimised for blue-water operations while retaining the flexibility to support expeditionary, littoral and coalition missions.

The frigate is designed to integrate the AEGIS Combat System; and 64 Strike-Length Vertical Launch System (VLS) cells, capable of employing the complete family of modern air defence, ballistic missile defence and land-attack missiles. This provides a level of battlespace awareness and fire control typically available only on significantly larger surface combatants.

Rheinmetall intends to offer the GMF 140 for a campaign in North America, potentially followed by other allied Navies seeking a highly interoperable, future-ready naval combatant capable of operating seamlessly alongside the world’s leading naval forces.

It was impossible not to be impressed by the Lockheed Constellation brought to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025 by the Lewis Air Legends museum in San Antonio, Texas. It had been on the field at AirVenture 2023; however, at that time it was basically a huge, fantastically detailed, empty flying tube because the interior had yet to be installed.

In 2025, it was showing off its new interior, which definitely continued the massive amount of detailing begun by its exterior. It carried on the airplane’s theme of elegance and unreal attention to detail.
