Lisa Raitt just said the quiet part.
She’s on Carney’s own Canada-U.S. advisory council.
The message they got:
Washington is watching every word Canadians say.
Not just regular people.
Politicians.
Every quote in the last 48 hours gets poured over by the U.S. trade team.
Then Wab Kinew goes on camera and calls the President a “bad person,” “erratic,” “not to be trusted,” and “very weak.”
While Carney is asking premiers to put American booze back on the shelves to keep a deal from collapsing.
That’s the strategy.
Talk tough for the cameras.
Then tell the table we need another concession.
Then hope the other side doesn’t read the clips.
Raitt said Kinew’s comments created problems for the negotiators.
At the very least they had to explain what the heck he was talking about.
You don’t get to pick a fight in public
and then act shocked when the other side uses it.

@jkenney Oh Jason, you've only seen the Carney statement. What about what's actually in the deal? Lets see it! Canadians deserve to see what the government has rejected.

@ryangerritsen Should we stop selling Crown Royal to the US? If Wab hates the US so much, then let's take that away from the US. Remember Texas buys more CR than all of Canada.
@stephen_taylor Yes. Free? But at what cost to our health. Years for hip or knee replacement. MRIs take months to get. And all the Healthcare industry wants is more money.
