To help convey the importance of soil topography for management I had a 3D terrain display of the ISU Ag450 farm milled from pink foam board with a CNC router.
I then projected bare soil, slope, water direction and more onto the board to create an effective teaching tool.
Evidence of how wet our spring has been in Starkville. Our tissue sampling study (funded by @MississippiCorn) is my favorite study to get pictures of. Visually, you can only see differences between 300 and everything else. Most N was lost since application due to rain.
Good Friday ended up being decent Friday for the Fertility crew in Starkville and Brooksville. All but one corn trial is in the ground, but both planter and trailer gave out on us as we finished up. We’re just gonna let that be Mondays problem…
#Plant25 starting at the Brown Loam Research station today. We have NxK, Corn tissue study, and Population X Hybrid going in today. Hoping weather cooperates with us! @MississippiCorn
Soil test alone cannot predict yield response. On average - it works, but precision is lacking. We concluded that we need not only more, but DIFFERENT data for more accurate and precise P management strategies.

For those trying to figure out the economic damage from the new tariffs going into effect today, this tweet and the discussion that follows are useful. My own take is that this is an own goal for team USA. The only question is how much economic damage this will cause if the tariffs stay for an extended period. It is incredible to me that we want to start a trade war with, of all places, Canada.
When submitting your soil to different labs, many could offer different extractant types, and many may wonder why there are so many options? I talk about this more in my latest blog post. Thanks to @alh1376 for her help on writing this blog post.

Record snowfall fell across several southern states last week, including as far south as some Gulf Coast beaches.

I am looking for grid soil data from anyone willing to share. Give us a survey of the region, but also gives us more data to see variability within fields. Mainly from Mississippi, but also in the mid-south region. If interested, reach out!
Corey Bryant and Vaughn Reed discuss different philosophies on managing an essential crop production practice: soil sampling.

How much does nutrient response change over a third of a mile? We put the last of our P and K strips out in Starkville today, trying to figure out what are other drivers that change the spatial variability of P/K response in soybeans @MSSOY
