GOVERNOR MUTFWANG INSPECTS COLLAPSED BRIDGES IN WASE, CALLS FOR URGENT INTERVENTION TO BOOST SOCIO-ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES

In a bid to translate his promises into action, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has undertaken an on-the-spot assessment of two collapsed bridges linking Wase Local Government Area with Langtang North Local Government Area.

One of the bridges, which has been under construction for years under the Sukuk funding of the Federal Government, remains incomplete. The second bridge collapsed following an accident involving a Dangote truck loaded with cement, effectively cutting off access to major cities and disrupting agricultural activities in the area.

Governor Mutfwang, committed to improving the well-being of rural communities, visited the affected sites and appealed to the Dangote Group to intervene as part of its corporate social responsibility to the two Local Government Areas.

He also called on the Honourable Minister of Works to ensure the timely completion of the Sukuk-funded bridge, which is already 80 percent complete, before the onset of the rainy season.

"It is disheartening that in this modern era, entire communities are being cut off from civilization due to poor infrastructure. Regarding the Sukuk bridge, I will personally engage the Honourable Minister of Works to appeal to him for urgent intervention.

"Fortunately, the most challenging part of the construction has been completed. What remains is mainly filling and finalizing the structure to make it usable. I believe this will not require much effort, as most of the concrete work is already done."

"For the other collapsed bridge, we will conduct a thorough assessment in collaboration with the Direct Labour Agency and the Plateau State Ministry of Works to determine the necessary steps for its restoration."

The Governor also urged the Dangote Group of Companies to see this intervention as part of their corporate social responsibility by working with the state government to restore the bridge and improve the standard of living in the affected communities.

The Chairman of Wase Local Government Council, Hon. Anani Hamisu, lamented the hardship caused by the collapsed bridges, stating that farmers are unable to transport their produce due to the lack of accessible roads.

He therefore appealed to the Federal Government, the Dangote Group, and other well-meaning individuals and organizations to support the Plateau State Government in addressing the challenges facing the affected communities.

I am proud to announce the launch of the Nigeria Solar for Health Project (NISHP) in Plateau State, an initiative designed to provide sustainable solar power solutions to over 25 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across our 17 Local Government Areas.

This groundbreaking project, supported by the European Union (EU), marks a new chapter in our journey toward reliable, quality healthcare, especially in rural areas where power supply challenges have long hampered services. With the deployment of solar energy, these PHCs will now have consistent electricity to power diagnostic equipment, store vaccines, and preserve life-saving medicines—a necessity for effective healthcare delivery.

When we assumed office, less than 5% of over 1,000 PHCs in Plateau State were functional—a sobering reality that demanded urgent action. To date, we have renovated 82 PHCs, and this solar project is a vital step in strengthening these facilities to serve our people better. By ensuring that at least one PHC in every LGA receives solar power, we are improving not just healthcare but also empowering small businesses, as 75 enterprises within these facilities will also benefit from this clean energy initiative.

We are grateful to our partners at the European Union for their unwavering support and shared vision. Their emphasis on renewable energy underscores a global commitment to sustainability, while Plateau State’s 30% counterpart funding reflects our determination to invest in the health and well-being of our people.

This collaboration is a testament to what can be achieved when partnerships are rooted in trust and a shared mission. We are confident that the success of the Nigeria Solar for Health Project will not only improve healthcare but also position Plateau State as a beacon of progress and development in Nigeria.

Together, we are creating a brighter future, one where access to quality healthcare and sustainable energy go hand in hand, driving economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for all Plateau citizens.
