After the wet weather we've had, the wetlands at South Norwood Country Park has turned into a vast network of temporary ponds. These may not hold water all year but will provide important habitat connectivity for pond animals

Highlight of the week : this wonderfully preserved dragonfly exuvia we found at Littleheath Woods, hanging on to an iris at the Cattle Pond. This is the shell left behind as the nymph exits the water and emerges as the flying adult stage!π²π¦

One of the first things I did in this job was install some floating islands of vegetation at South Norwood Lake with Croydon Council.
They have flourished in the past 2 years and helped to clear the water. Today we're giving them a haircut!

Today we had a lovely afternoon at Surrey History Centre in Woking, poring over old maps. This parish map of Croydon from the 1800's was enormous. Only about a fifth of it could fit on the table at a time!
