They stopped the music mid-song.
Sri Lankan police walked into a Tamil concert in Jaffna and shut it down. All because of the songs that were being sung.
Jaffna in 2026 and the Sri Lankan state making clear, again, that Tamil cultural life exists only on its terms.

Zohran's proposed expansion of the NYPD is a violation of his campaign promise and the latest incident in a pattern of capitulation to police power.

A new communist party in the US will have to integrate the advanced sections of a multitude of organizations, across local, regional, natl scales - and that include sects and grassroots social organisation who in many places are engaged in important work DSA isn't
DSA is the only proto-communist party formation in the United States. PSL, CPUSA, FRSO, etc. are all j marginal sects regardless of their many claims to farcical “independence”. DSA must now protect against those within it that just want to turn it into another PSL, another sect.
@JacktheFate DSA imo is just an umbrella. That's bad for obvious reasons, but I do genuinely see helpful syntheses between different tendencies that's productive imo for the overall left. New ideas, new forms of organizing. But it gets lost in the piles of garbage and is hard to see outside
@JacktheFate My loyalty is not towards DSA. It is towards communism and the reconstitution of a CP. To me, DSA is one vehicle for that because it engages in a mass space I think is needed for a CP, as I said, but I also accept (and organize in!) other vehicles too
@pkgandakin Imo it entrenches peoples thinking, because they see criticism of a life world of theirs they deeply hold. You want to organize people out the sects? Work with them, organize the advanced, make the argument, break barriers - mix among the left rather than create hard lines here
@pkgandakin I'm not saying DSA should copy the sects, quite the opposite - but again I don't think acting high and mighty on twitter actually moves anyone out from the sects which is your intention. The opposite. Relationally organize people IRL
@pkgandakin Many PSL chapters may be smaller and sects, but also tend to be much more racially diverse. Instead of interrogating DSA in not being able to absorb such ppl, many who are good organisers, or making the argument directly, we tweet ab how sects suck. For years atp. It's lazy
@pkgandakin That's fine, idk what chapters you're in, but I think this work should be done relationally. I've never seen DSA members whining about this on twitter honestly amount to anything. It just causes more division in the movement and otg tensions. Shit isn't a competition
@SnakeThatStings@ShinMarginalScr Yeah tbh I'm confused why it wouldn't kick in for opposing party whip, although I mean it's an NDA controlled legislature and judiciary so idt people care about the details in a situation like this
During his more than two decades in South Africa, M.K. Gandhi’s early political focus was strictly on fighting for the rights of the Indian merchant and indentured class. During this period, he actively distanced the Indian struggle from that of native Black Africans.
Denegration of the sects, although dangerous trends like sexual abuse that goes unchecked should be ruthlessly criticized, doesn't build our movement. These are still our practical partners, and we should build united fronts
Criticism of the sect-form is valid and necessary, and DSA is engaging a terrain of the mass political conducive to the reconstitution of communist politics, where I take issue is claiming it is indeed a "proto communist party" - I don't think so, the strands of a new CP are vast
