Alright. I’m in a mood. Let’s discuss. Depin has an issue right now and honestly, I don’t know how to solve that and I don’t think any other depins know how to either.
If you’re one of the original investors of any depin project you’ll do alright. The issue is as it gains traction, there’s simply just not enough to share to make it worth it for the community.
Project starts and rewards are pretty good, they can get away with this because there’s not a lot of people getting the devices or buying in or whatever you need to do for this specific project. As time goes on and project gains traction, they find this isn’t sustainable. They have to dial back how much they’re giving out. This continues as more and more traction is gained.
Now suppose it’s a data collection depin of come sort and they have buyers. Company pays $10,000 for some data. The depin shares 80% (which is higher than the standard. Usually between 40-60%) of this with the contributors and 20% for the company itself. The depin has grown to have 100,000 contributors. Well congratulations everyone just made $0.08 in whatever the depin is… who really wants to stick around for that? Especially if it’s a project that requires you to buy a device for it. It’s hard to stay excited about any project when ultimately you’re just going to be earning literal pennies.
Depins have a phenomenally difficult time scaling. As it stands right now, it’s tough to keep buying into these unless you can find one on the absolute ground floor so that by the time you’re only earning pennies, you’ve already made it and have been successful, so the pennies are just a bonus.
Personal opinion, scale as needed. Stop overselling a product. Start at let’s say 1000 people to be og’s, don’t expand until it’s necessary. Or if you have a depin, and you have absolute faith in your project, take the hit on your collection device. Either give it away or sell it at a loss for the greater good. Show the people how serious you are about this. You have the idea but without the people doing the work for you, you have nothing to sell. Give the people doing the work a break. We need something to stay excited about.
@GokusanRose@Hivemapper It’s discord. Not exactly the pinnacle of security. You really don’t think a hacker could figure out how to give themselves admin privileges?
@Hivemapper These things happen a lot… it’s both the beauty and curse of a decentralized system… there will be times it’s on us to do our due diligence as far as safety goes
@Hivemapper I was one of the likely many that did what we could to warn people, got kicked from the discord which I’m still not in… Ariel probly knows more than anyone I’ve had my qualms with Hivemapper 😅 but I will say for this instance… can’t necessarily blame them.
@TheOrville I have a question regarding this episode actually… they had an issue with moclans for obvious reasons… why not just introduce them to bortus’ daughter?!
@Tesla Great… a bunch of useless cars until the autonomous driving catches up… which by then technology could have gotten better and you could have made better more affordable cybercabs? I truly don’t understand this move…
@JLee2028@DefiantLs I’ve had insurance not pay out a claim because “kids did it”… lol good luck to this homeowner… he probly will get paid out but only because this video will go viral if not
