PSA the ledger incident isn't limited to Asia
This is a device purchased in store from an official reseller in Europe (a legitimate device doesn't have any of these cables as can be seen in picture 2)
This even seems to be an old version of the 'spy implant' even though the device was purchased a couple of weeks ago. The newer versions usually hide the implant by the screen so it's easier to miss
What's interesting is that this compromised ledger never transfered funds to an exploiter. Either the device didn't work or they were waiting for a more widespread usage of the comprised devices?
If you own a ledger that didn't directly come from the ledger online store make sure to not just rely on the software genuinely check by ledger but to actually open up the ledger yourself to make sure its original, again there are reported cases in Asia, south America and now Europe as well.
@MagicalTux made some useful videos on how to open the ledger and what to look for.
LATEST: 📊 JPMorgan analysts estimate about $50B has flowed into digital assets this year, an annualized pace near $66B, as stronger ETF flows and futures positions build momentum into Q4.

🚨 NEXT WEEK WILL DECIDE WHETHER OCTOBER TURNS INTO UPTOBER OR REKTOBER.
Monday: U.S. markets reopen after sanctions on Russian diesel were lifted. Lower fuel prices would help, but any new attacks on energy facilities could hurt the markets.
Tuesday: Jobs and housing data. Weak numbers bring recession fears back. Strong numbers keep rate hike fears alive.
Wednesday: CPI and Core CPI. Inflation is expected to be around 3.6% headline and 2.5% core. A hotter print can hit stocks and crypto hard. A cooler print will push the Fed to pause.
Thursday: PPI and Core PPI. Another inflation number that would be very crucial for the Fed's decision.
Friday: Kevin Warsh speaks. Any hawkish comment like Jackson Hole could put downward pressure on markets.
So far, the market is hoping for a rate pause, but this week could entirely change the direction.
BREAKING: Mark Karpelès found a hidden SIM card inside a tampered Ledger hardware wallet.
"The implant was cleverly hidden where the screen's padding is supposed to be."
The device is allegedly linked to reseller 'CryptoBilis'.
🫡 @MagicalTux
So it would appear that the "authorized reseller" Was bought out in March of this year and forced to sign an NDA that prevented them from telling anybody that they had sold the business.
The NDA expires in 10 days.
It is now more likely that we're not dealing with a malicious employee, but probably a well-funded and relatively sophisticated bad actor, possibly DPRK.
It is also likely that this is not the only third-party reseller that they attempted to buy.
If you purchased a ledger (or other hardware wallet) from ANY reseller and not from Ledger directly, you should carefully and slowly move funds to a new device.
If you do not have a new device, you can start with a 2-of-2 multisig where your ledger is one signer and a hot wallet is another. Use that in the interim until you have another hardware device.
And in the long term, the safest way to store your self-custodied tokens remains a multisig (but not a 2/2, where loss of one key leads to loss of funds). Prefer 2/3 or 3/5.
There have been a reports on X and Reddit of wallet-draining by Ledger users.
I traced the theft addresses and identified inflows from more hundreds of victim wallets across several major blockchains, including Ethereum, TRON, and Bitcoin.
Total losses $86M+

My spy-implanted ledger came from Malaysia, and had flawless shrink wrap. Even opening it, at first you don't see the implant which is cleverly hidden where the screen's padding is supposed to be.

PUSHBACK: Coinbase's top cryptographer is calling Justin Drake's AI bunker-mode warning pure FUD. 🥊
Drake warned AI could crack the cryptography securing $BTC and $ETH before quantum ever does. Yehuda Lindell isn't buying it.
Even Vitalik weighed in, saying the AI risk is real but aimed at a different type of cryptography.

"We're starting to see large wealth managers, like Merrill, Bank of America, and Goldman actively going out and suggesting to their clients that they have a part of their portfolio in Bitcoin." 🚀
Existing holders have been carrying this bitcoin:native rally.
The realized cap keeps climbing while new money from ETFs, stablecoins and treasuries is dropping.
The 2024 and 2025 rallies showed the same gap, but on far larger inflows. A pickup in new money would put real demand behind BTC.
