@land10k_gophers@PatGarofalo Agree they aren’t a failed state (yet), but their real GDP growth is towards the bottom of all the states if I remember right. At the very least they are doing much worse than the likes of Texas and Florida. Nominal is a poor ranking because of things like gas prices.
@JohnJames348031@Nick___Collins Yes, maybe a couple would. That’s the point. Odell Beckham jr is a perfect example. Add in a couple bball players and our team is already improved.
@FromValue@cperruna It’s all connected. It’s structural because we don’t have our best athletes/coaches/trainers and etc. in soccer. Odell Beckham Jr. was one of the best soccer players in the US for his age and was invited to play in Europe as a teen. He opted for football.
@EerBeard@BowTiedCrow Don’t forget OBJ was invited to the USMNT at like age 14 or something (maybe 16, can’t remember). People always bring up Messi but we would have a bunch of haaland’s and zlatan’s on the same team
@buaalicious It was easier for me to go to the gym not working remotely. Stop at the gym on the way there or way home. When you work from home it’s way easier to just not go.
@factorgraph@nic_carter Yeah the point is they had no idea how easy it would be to travel here. I haven’t read the opinions yet so I am undecided on which side I think got it right, but it’s not hard to imagine they would have included that language had they known about planes.
Zoning laws are tricky because everyone wants more housing but no one wants it near them (in general). The well to do liberal (or a conservative) will acknowledge more affordable housing is needed, but if it’s near their home it might reduce their property values. This makes it politically infeasible for local politicians.
@gosc101@monke_io It does go over the ordinance and acknowledge that the rent control in St. Paul is stricter than most. However, there are plenty of citations from other studies on more moderate ordinances.
Because rent control has been tried before and we have done very in depth analyses on the downstream effects. Here is a robust study that looks at wealth transfers after St. Paul MN enacted rent control in 2022. https://t.co/dwxkoZ9H5c
In summary, it found the opposite effects of what the policy intends.
Wild how the media frames this. He said he admires George Washington even though he held slaves. This is an answer I could imagine JD Vance giving. I say this as someone who doesnt like Obama.
Days before America celebrates its 250th birthday, former President Barack Obama is drawing renewed attention to the Founding Fathers' ties to slavery.
Obama said leaders like George Washington helped build the nation while also owning slaves, calling that contradiction a "deep flaw" at the heart of America's founding.
"I think sometimes we get confused in thinking that these two stories are separate. They're intertwined, right? Which is why it's possible for me to be a great admirer of George Washington, and also acknowledge he was a slaveholder," he said in a recent interview.
As Americans prepare for Independence Day celebrations across the country, Obama is using the occasion to argue that the nation's founding ideals and its history of slavery cannot be separated.
