@gyardley@just_keep_read Nice! Kind of what I was thinking - remove any threat of an attack on your king and win a knight outright vs. trading a knight for a relatively inactive rook. opponents position is basically dead after that.
@marteauniqueur@CleansedTweets@SelfMadeMastery You’re right, English is weird. But as a former math professor (so yes, I am well aware there are multiple fields), I won’t sit idly by while someone argues in favor of maths.
@MyOpini74468479@reddit_lies The US has the largest rail system in the world. We prioritize freight over passengers, which is a more efficient use. It also requires basically zero government subsidies to operate. That’s the “excuse”.
It’s amazing to me how many people who hate going to the grocery store their one trip a week don’t realize that is the reason why it sucks. It’s a chore. You’re planning a week worth of meals. Better not forget anything. Better have a list. You’re probably going when it’s busy. Meanwhile people who stop all the time think “I am in the mood for burgers tonight” so they buy meat, buns, a side, and are out in 5 minutes.
It’s not so much that they were incorporated, more so that certain subplots I found thought provoking might not be to someone who already has strong opinions on the underlying philosophy. I remember when I read this series I often thought “that’s an interesting way to think about that”. Someone who has thought about that thing a lot might find it less interesting.
I enjoy thinking about philosophical ideas but don’t enjoy reading philosophy. Due to that I don’t get exposed to a ton of philosophy. To me this book raised interesting philosophical ideas. However, I could see a philosopher finding that aspect of it relatively boring or frustrating.
@RevivedThoughts No - you’re in an international zone not subject to border control policies. Technically you’re within the border of the country, but you didn’t enter the country.
@Captain_C2@alisha_hg The idea that stopping to pick up groceries to cook for dinner takes 5 hours a week is beyond delusional. But technically you are correct, being inefficient at wasting time means it’s efficient.
