This past week, I witnessed 32 incredible students transform from individuals into a team of future leaders & lifelong friends. The effort & enthusiasm they displayed every day was nothing short of remarkable! I will forever have a special bond with each & every one of them.
Congratulations to our Youth Leadership Program Graduates!
From March 14 to March 21, 2026, a group of 32 students took part in the AbbyPD Youth Leadership Program—an intensive and inspiring program designed to help young people grow as confident, capable leaders.
The AbbyPD Youth Leadership Program provides high school students with an exceptional opportunity to develop both personal and team-based leadership skills through immersive experiences focused on policing, public safety, and community service. Over the span of eight days and seven nights, participants engage in dynamic and challenging activities aimed at unlocking their full leadership potential.
Guided by experienced local police officers, students take part in interactive presentations, hands‑on policing simulations, and meaningful lessons in social responsibility, communication, and life skills. This practical, team‑oriented environment pushes them mentally and physically while fostering teamwork, resilience, and personal growth.
Open to students in grades 10 through 12 from public and private schools across Abbotsford, the program introduces participants to essential concepts such as the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, police procedures, emergency response, forensics, self‑defense, and more—equipping them with knowledge that supports both civic awareness and lifelong leadership.
Congratulations on making it through the week! Your hard work, resilience, and positive attitude carried you through every challenge. Be proud of what you accomplished—you pushed yourself, grew as leaders, and finished strong. Well done! 👏
Thank you to the Abbotsford Police Foundation for supporting this and many other AbbyPD programs!

Abbotsford Police Mobilize Task Force to Tackle Extortion Crime Amid Recent Violence
Message from Chief Constable Watson: https://t.co/lKZDgPDavk
Abbotsford, BC – September 23rd, 2025 – Between November 2023 and September 2025, the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) has received 38 reports of extortion-related incidents. Two of these incidents, both of which occurred in November 2023, involved acts of violence. Between December 2023 and August 2025, the vast majority of reported extortion cases have involved non-violent methods, such as threatening letters, phone calls, or text messages. All reported incidents have been actively investigated and/or monitored by our Major Crimes Unit.
In response to a recent increase in frequency and severity of extortion events this month, some involving shootings and/or arson, the Abbotsford Police Department is taking swift and focused action to reinforce public safety.
“These events, and others throughout the lower mainland and beyond, have shaken our sense of security,” said Chief Constable Colin Watson. “We share the concerns we have heard and are fully committed to ensuring public safety in our community.”
AbbyPD has launched an Internal Extortion Task Force under the name “Operation Community Shield”, comprised of experienced officers reassigned both full and part-time from several areas of AbbyPD. The Internal Task Force is dedicated to disrupting and investigating extortion events in Abbotsford.
The AbbyPD is also working closely with provincial and federal partners, with two AbbyPD officers serving on the Provincial Extortion Task Force to ensure strong local representation in the broader response.
“This is a community concern, not just a police concern. We’re committed to transparency and will keep the public informed as best we can as investigations progress.”
AbbyPD is urging residents to report suspicious activity and share information with police. “We will not let fear define our city. Together, we will work to address these threats to our community members and businesses.”
Sergeant Paul Walker
Media Relations Officer
Abbotsford Police Department

Speeding is a major contributor to many avoidable tragic deaths on our roadways. Great joint effort by #AbbyPD and Mission RCMP officers to remove these 2 threats from our roads. #StrengthInCommunity#RoadSafety
Last evening Patrol officers observed two motorcycles driving more than 200 km an hr in an 80 km zone along Hwy 11. The drivers were observed weaving in & out of traffic. With the assistance of Mission RCMP, the riders were stopped. Bikes seized & numerous violations were issued.
