Respectability politics has never worked for Black people — and it never will with people who don’t respect you to begin with.
For years I’ve been told to change my approach. Today I challenge those in leadership to consider that the approach they’ve been using got our s*** stolen.
The strategy now has to be to take something back from them — power.
I’ve been doing this work for over a decade. Folks didn’t partner with me or support me when I ran because I was considered “radical” — as if demanding equity is radical.
It’s time for a different approach. A different posture. One with some fight in it. I’m leaning in regardless — I’m just wondering how many of us are ready now.

Part of the racist chat by young Republicans at Florida International University. We recorded it yesterday at the Black History Learning Tree. Sorry for the sick language but then they are Republicans. #repostblackhistory
This exchange just happened on the Senate floor.
Cornyn: “I don’t understand how the SAVE Act disenfranchises voters.”
Durbin: “Happy to explain. Driver’s licenses don’t qualify under the bill. 50% of Americans don’t have passports.”
Cornyn: “Why not just amend it?”
Durbin: “When’s the last time the Senate actually amended a bill?”
Silence.
The SAVE Act requires passport-level documentation to register to vote.
50% of Americans don’t have a passport.
The people least likely to have passports: the elderly, the poor, rural Americans, young first-time voters.
The people most likely to have passports: wealthy Americans.
This is not voter protection.
This is voter selection.
And when a senator suggested fixing it — his own colleague couldn’t name the last time the Senate amended anything.
That’s the Senate in 2026.
@cwebbonline Rep. Al and his Sign was #Undefeated that night
I hope the Voters get him out of that Primary next week
@RepAlGreen needs to stay in Congress
Folks need to understand what really happened here.
Rep. Al Green was born in 1947 in the Jim Crow South. In 2026, a sitting president, Donald Trump, posted a racist video of our former president, Barack Obama, and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
Al Green was defending Black folks’ honor, and Markwayne Mullin and others were offended by that, not the racist video.
Offended enough to manhandle a Black elder.
Louis Allen was a Black businessman in Liberty, Mississippi. He started a logging business after returning from military service in the war.
Louis Allen was murdered in 1964 on his land.
He had been trying to register to vote previously.
No Black person had been allowed to vote in the state.
Shot and killed a Black man trying to vote after he put his life on the line for this country.
I suspect not only was he killed for trying to vote, but also to take his land, the audacity of a Black man owning land.
The only thing more powerful than Black voices is the Black vote which they are trying to take away. #BlackHistoryWithLana #DemsUnited
Florida’s DEI laws are prohibiting students at universities from celebrating Black History Month! Students have reported not being able to use the words ‘Black’, ‘affirmative action’, and ‘women’. Our students deserve to celebrate this country’s rich Black history!
“President Trump said that he believed civil rights-era protections resulted in white people being “very badly treated,” his strongest indication that the concept of “reverse discrimination” is driving his aggressive crusade against diversity policies”

FREE FLORIDA LAND FOR WHITE
The Florida Armed Occupation Act of 1842 gave 60 acres of Florida land to White males. Gov DeSantis believes Florida should be "color blind" today but maybe more Black families today would be better if Florida had been color blind in 1842.
Trump announces reparations for white people. He says he will ask the Justice Department to penalize colleges that consider diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and fine them so he can pay “restitution” to white people who he considers the real victims of racial discrimination.
