In my statement at @UN during the General Assembly meeting on the Security Council’s Annual Report, I reaffirmed that the Council’s credibility continues to be undermined by selectivity, a lack of transparency, and the repeated use of the veto to block effective responses to the most serious crises facing the international community.

I denounced the absence of a critical assessment of Israel’s violations of international law and of the humanitarian consequences resulting from the Council’s continued paralysis regarding the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. I also reiterated the need to finally adopt the Council’s rules of procedure, strengthen accountability to the General Assembly, and advance a comprehensive reform that makes the Council more democratic, representative, and transparent.

I reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, multilateralism, and international law. I denounced that #Cuba continues to face a tightened US economic, commercial and financial blockade, a full-scale economic war, and real threats of military aggression by the United States government, in clear violation of the UN Charter and international law.
