#HLD2019@yourHJEN To what extent are Canadians entitled to privacy in their digital communications given that these communications could conceal social harm or dangerous behaviour, such as terrorist activities or evidence for a crime. Canadians shouldn't expect digital privacy.
@M_STOJANO777 So you believe an individual who takes away the livelihood and even life in some cases of innocent individuals, deserves to be treated equally to his counterparts.
#HLD2019 Canadian's deserve all their rights and freedom's, criminals on the other hand do not. Therefor, when convicted of a crime, the freedom of private digital conversations should be taken immediately.
@yourHJEN What I meant is that perpetrators of serious crimes such as, murder, rape, kidnap, terrorism, do not deserve all of the same rights and freedoms as the rest of society. However, we should assume rehabilitation will happen and when it does grant them with their prior freedoms.
@Ebunolu02477252 @yourHJEN Thats correct, however their is also the chance of a stolen phone. Also, will police care that it wasn't you- your account is your responsibility.
#HLD2019 How do we deal with the possibility of individuals using someone else's identity/account to participate in illegal activity online. Who would be at fault?
@CathedralHSLaw#HLD2019 I highly agree, police should only be allowed to read our text messages if their is a good reason to believe the context of them is illegal. Otherwise, our section 8 freedom, that protects our right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure would be violated.
#HLD2019 Individuals should most definitely have the freedom to partake in prIvate conversations online, HOWEVER, as legal professionals police officers should have the power to choose when this freedom should be taken away; utilizing their legal knowledge and experience.
#HLD2019 Section 1 protects our rights and freedoms within reasonable limits. It is important we acknowledge the word UNREASONABLE, it is reasonable to take away ones right to private digital conversations, if there is any belief of illegal activity. @yourHJEN
