South Australia’s largest and most complex infrastructure project has reached a major milestone with the announcement of the preferred alliance partner.
Ever wondered what a tunnel boring machine looks like up close and how it works? T2D's Senior Engineering Manager Frances McNulty walks us through the model TBM, currently stationed at the Community Information Centre in Hilton.
Did you know the TBMs we'll use to excavate the T2D tunnels will be as long as two Olympic swimming pools?
That's around 100m long - or a bit over 47 seconds in time for Kyle Chalmers to swim freestyle.

Remember when South Road didn’t pass under Anzac Highway? The Gallipoli Underpass was officially opened in March 2009 and is a landmark project that removes north-south traffic from the Anzac Highway-South Road intersection and acknowledges ANZAC history and traditions.
Tomorrow is International Women in Engineering Day and the theme for this year is ‘Enhanced by Engineering’.
Meet Frances McNulty, Reshmi Ramesh and Eleanor Freeman who are not only breaking barriers but also laying the path for a more gender diverse future in infrastructure.
The T2D motorway will have a speed limit of 80km/h. Speed limits are dependent on factors like location, road structure and shoulder widths.

This new intersection near the T2D Project will improve traffic flow for a key parallel route to South Road during construction of the project and in the longer term, by creating two new through-lanes in each direction directly linking Holbrooks Road and East Avenue.
Take a look at an archival photograph of South Road, St Marys (near Quinlan Avenue) where it is receiving its first coat of bitumen in 1926, to what it looks like today and its future when the T2D Project is completed. Credit: State Library of South Australia, PRG 1631/44
JUST IN: Laws have passed parliament that will force DV- related offenders who breach an intervention order with violence, to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. @7NewsAdelaide
More than 50,000 tunnel lining segments will be used to construct the circular lining walls of the T2D Project tunnels. Tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will install them in a series of rings. Watch the video to learn more about tunnel lining segments and how they’ll be used.
The North-South Corridor (NSC) represents a long-standing vision for SA's transport capability. The NSC will be completed by the 10.5km T2D project unlocking the full benefits of the non-stop 78km motorway from Gawler to Old Noarlunga.
Sustainability is a key consideration for the T2D project. Measures such as 20% increase in tree canopy, use of sustainable material like green concrete and green steel as well as optimised tunnel design are being undertaken to create better environmental outcomes. #EarthDay2024
