This is a massive kick in the teeth to residents across Cumbria who are crying out for better bus services, especially those in our rural villages.

The huge number of second homes in Cumbria means we have less and less children going to local villages schools.

Today I asked the Education Secretary whether the Government would consider doubling council tax on second homes to help fund our brilliant small rural schools.

The invasion of Ukraine has created a world-wide food security crisis.

Today I challenged the Foreign Secretary to:
1. Restore the International Aid budget to 0.7% of GDP to support poorer countries
2. Stop the cuts to British farmers so we maintain our ability to feed ourselves

We have an international food security crisis but this Government is putting farmers out of business with their botched transition from the old farm payment scheme to the new one.

The Chancellor had the chance today to fix this and back British farmers but he chose not to.

@timfarron I don’t know which farmers the chancellor has spoken to, but i do know many many farmers across the UK and can’t think of a single one that’s says the transition is going well.

Not only is this immoral, it is also massively bad news for our local economy which is being robbed of the local workforce that businesses are crying out for.

The Conservatives put in their election manifesto that they would scrap section 21 evictions but they’ve done nothing.

Cumbria’s housing crisis is leading to young people not being able to afford to stay in the town or village that they grew up in.

Meanwhile many are being evicted from their home so their landlord can make a quick buck by putting it on the holiday market.

Just spoke in the House to propose my amendment to the Animal Welfare Bill requiring an annual Government report on the impact of sewage and pollution in our lakes & rivers, especially relating to impact on animals. Surely Conservative MPs can't have any reason to vote this down?

It's time to name and shame water companies for dumping sewage in our rivers.

Local environmental groups should have a seat at the table to stop water companies trying to get away with outrageous damage to wildlife habitats and popular swimming spots.

I'm over the moon that after months and months of campaigning, health bosses have finally ditched plans to move A&E even further away from people in the South Lakes.

Thanks to everyone who signed our petition and backed our campaign - this is your victory.

Families that are already struggling with rising fuel bills will soon face a crippling tax hike thanks to this Conservative Government.

To add insult to injury they claim the tax rise is to fix the social care crisis, yet not a single penny of it will go to hardworking carers.

A collection point for donations of food, blankets, toiletries and small hardware supplies is being set up by Border Trucks and Recycling Lives in the building next to The Factory Tap off Aynam Road in Kendal. These supplies will be sent out to help Ukrainian refugees. (1/2)

The collection point will be open from this Sunday, and will then be open from the following times:
• Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am to 2:00pm
• Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00pm
