10-year-old Victory Blinker who set the Guinness World Record for the youngest opera singer in the world, sings Mozart’s 'Der Holle Rache,’ considered one of the most difficult arias to sing.
This is one of the most narrowly framed articles I’ve read in @TheEconomist. It downplays how far both countries pulled back from escalation in 2025. In a world where both reward confrontation, keeping communication open & stabilizing trade is not trivial.

Scientists have been forced to rename dozens of human genes because Microsoft Excel kept automatically converting them into dates.
For years, researchers dealing with gene symbols such as MARCH1, SEPT1, and SEPT2 watched helplessly as Excel turned them into calendar dates (e.g., “March 1” or “Sept 2”). In response, the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) has officially updated the names of 27 genes to prevent these persistent errors. The new guidelines, published in Nature Genetics, introduce more computer-friendly versions such as MARCHF1 and SEPTIN1.
A 2016 study revealed just how widespread the problem was: nearly one in five scientific papers using genetic data contained Excel-related errors. With genomics playing an ever-growing role in medicine, these seemingly minor spreadsheet glitches posed a real risk to data integrity and patient safety.
This unusual case marks one of the rare times biological nomenclature has been changed to accommodate the limitations of everyday software.

Death Valley National Park is experiencing its first major superbloom in a decade as of March/April 2026, driven by record winter rainfall (1.7 – 2.5+ inches) that transformed the desert landscape with vibrant carpets of yellow, pink, and purple flowers.
