On Sunday, October 11, 41 runners as part of Team CCF ran the Chicago Marathon to honor all those affected by cholangiocarcinoma and raise funds for life-saving research.
We had runners from Australia and fifteen US states, and there were so many moments of connection and community—and, in the process, raised nearly $210,000! From fun at the tent to incredible finishes, the day was an incredible reminder of what we can accomplish as a team.
We especially want to thank:
Greg Metzler, a CCA survivor, who was our incredible photographer.
Sandra Zussman, a CCA survivor, who provided handmade gifts to others on a cholangiocarcinoma journey.
Katie Glenn and Cindy Mrotek, who lead our amazing cheer tent with awesome energy all day!
And we want you to join us next year! There is a fundraising minimum of $2,500, and each participant will receive 18 weeks of training, fundraising help and resources, a race day shirt, and an invitation to the team lunch for the runner and a friend.

Please join our next Educational Webinar: What’s on the Horizon for Second-Line Cholangiocarcinoma Treatment.
This webinar will be led by Amanda Nottke, PhD, the Director of Research at CCF. After starting her career in academic research, she worked as a biopharma consultant before focusing on real-world data research and clinical trial matching prior to joining CCF.
It is an exciting time in cholangiocarcinoma research and pharmaceutical development. Amanda will walk us through the general principles of cancer drug design and describe the types of emerging therapies for second line or later cholangiocarcinoma treatment. She will also discuss how biomarker testing relates to treatment options in this setting, including clinical trial eligibility, with a special focus on options for cancers that do not have biomarkers with FDA-approved treatment options. Simply put: what if I do not have an FGFR2, IDH1, or HER2 mutation, or if I have no biomarkers at all?

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Dr. Rachna Shroff has passed away. A longtime partner of CCF, she has made tangible differences for patients and their families throughout her career. From being a valued member of our Science and Medical Advisory Board to helping build one of the nation's largest clinical and research programs in biliary tract cancer as a faculty member at MD Anderson Cancer Center, and as an empathetic and expert clinician, she made a difference in every facet.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, she brought fun everywhere she went. Whether she was quoting Beyoncé in a talk about clinical trials or getting us to throw our hands during her amazing Bollywood lesson, Rachna made us live in the moment and laugh, even in the hardest of times. Our hearts are with her family and friends in the days ahead and beyond.
In partnership with PER, we're bringing experts together in Denver this November to explore the evolving treatment landscape for hepatobiliary cancers. Join us for a case-based discussion on emerging immunotherapy data, first-line treatment strategies, and multidisciplinary approaches across HCC and biliary tract cancers. Register Now:
