The extremist rightwing thinks @GregAbbott_TX is their tool to destroy public education in Texas.
That's their plan.
Keep calling it out, y'all. They are turning Texans against their anti-#txed brand with every syllable they speak.

#ICYMI: The Texas Observer discovered Houston's state-appointed superintendent was moonlighting as a paid consultant for Third Future School, the charter school network he founded.
He canceled the potentially illegal contract when we asked about it. https://t.co/StIpaG7ivK

It is time for a change.
A lot of folks forget… Texas hasn’t always been red. 🤠
When Democrat Ann Richards was governor, Texas ranked 7th in education.
After nearly 30 years of Republican control, Texas now ranks 40th overall in education & 47th in reading.
It’s past time for a change. 🌊

Texas public schools are the heartbeat of our communities. The impact they deliver across our state is long-lasting and meaningful. The strength of Texas is powered by public education.

Let’s set the record straight! Texas public schools serve ALL students, and it’s up to us to use our voices to advocate for them.
These are some of the most common myths spread about our public school system—don’t let misinformation take the lead. ⬇️

SBOE member Evelyn Brooks spoke to her constituents in Denton County about the danger of government regulated school choice.
Listen and share this 3 minute clip with all your friends and neighbors.
Do we trust the same government that overspends, controls curriculum, and writes, administers, and grades its own tests? #SchoolChoice sound good, but they come with strings attached—strings that will strangle real choice. #Txlege #HB3 #SB2 #TEA

Some Texas House Republicans are parroting Governor Abbott, who frequently refers to a Republican primary ballot proposition as absolute proof of massive voucher support.
Not surprisingly, like Abbott, many of these legislators are attorneys. Apparently they missed the class on identifying “leading” (or misleading)questions in law school.
The truth is, the ballot propositions are nothing more than an opinion poll for the Republican Party, paid for by Texas taxpayers.
The leading questions are designed by the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) to confirm their views and the results are hardly a positive referendum on anything.
Since the early 1990s, every ballot proposition has passed with flying colors, and all but one by a super majority.
In the world of research, it is extremely rare to obtain such resounding results that are truly representative of the entire population. Yet the Republican Primary propositions? In 2022 all ten of them resulted in 75%-95% of respondents selecting “Yes” and in 2024 all thirteen had at least 70% or higher selecting “Yes”.
The proposition stated the following :
“Texas parents and guardians should have the right to select schools, whether public or private, for their children, and the funding should follow the student.”
The wording and structure of the voucher proposition is flawed. Professional surveyors suggest that to receive the most genuine responses, questions should be asked one at a time. The proposition fails to follow this fundamental rule by asking two questions at once and only allowing for a single “Yes” or “No” response.
Of course, everyone wants choice and thankfully we already have a choice of public, charter, private and home school opportunities.
Thoughtful and knowledgeable voters might think, “yes the money following the child sounds good, but the government follows the money.”
The proposition also failed to ask whether voters supported taking tax dollars away from public education to fund a voucher program. That question certainly would have told a different story.
My taxes pay for public roads but sometimes I choose the toll road. The government doesn’t subsidize my choice. Why do our Governor and legislators feel obliged to subsidize the choice of families to send their kids to private schools? #txlege#txed
Greg Abbott and his billionaire mega-donors know private school vouchers are unpopular in Texas.
So they’ve paid for a poll-tested rebrand to sell their scam.
