@angiesliverpool The ship with the orange and black funnel is a Guinness boat, which made the trip each night from Victoria Quay,Dublin, loaded with the famous stout.
@CollyRetro@angiesliverpool@JClarke1880 From what the family tell me,the the biz was apparently sold in the 1940s as my Grt Granparents were getting old. My Grt,Grt Grandmother was killed by an American lorry outside the Friary in Fox Street (presumably during the war).
@CollyRetro@angiesliverpool@JClarke1880 Yes,my Grt Grandparents apparently lived in a house in Cazneau Street, and had a wholesale fruit and veg business in the market in 1880.
@seventiesuk Owned by the Vestey Brothers of Liverpool. Vestey also owned The Blue Star shipping Line,Ranches and meat packing businesses in Australia and South America. One of the ports they shipped their produce from was Fray Bentos in Uruguay !
@ESPNFC As a Liverpool supporter,I completely agree with Pep. They are both intelligent, competitive men who want to win. There is no animosity between them, just healthy rivalry, which is how it should be.
@RonnieWriting @sarah_horton1 @YOLiverpool Fantastic shop, staffed by polite people who all knew their jobs.Nothing was too much trouble, their word was their bond.I miss it very much.
