@redbankgrazing@paradooprime@MoorallaMerino@james_ag_ 7 ME straw 1.5kgs per day 20% wastage pretty close to maintenance, but condition is monitored closely. Some twins coming out onto a green rotation now I’ve scanned. I put some lime in this year too.
@pbl1972@paradooprime@MoorallaMerino@james_ag_ Just 3 bales at a time into pens, sit on ends and cut all strings, very quick and easy. Normally a second person gate opening and cutting strings.
@paradooprime@MoorallaMerino@james_ag_ Sample weighed against EID, regularly to pick up any condition loss. Not possible to pick up small CS losses with condition scoring alone
@LambproHolbrook No shortage of backpackers looking for farm work now, in my experience they love working with sheep, some are better than others but there is always a job that fits their skill level, adds a good energy to the workforce too.
@CTBlackwell719@LambproHolbrook Spot on. Done the same here. Then added a few hard working females with dogs, that enjoy working dogs and things run smoothly
@RichieKirkland2 I agree Richie, had a truck pick up heifers which were going straight to Tassie, the Truckie had to get rid of all the branches. Is a high risk for carting insects etc around the country.
@kelly_gorter@EmCharlotteAnn That’s exactly what I want to avoid and what I used to do, but marking is busy and that method is not fool proof. This different tag system means visual drafting is also possible. I’m talking commercial operation 10k + lambs
@mbomb0507@EmCharlotteAnn EID tag is the only tag they get at marking (all the same year colour), the different brands are quite visually different too, so can easily draft manually as well
@EmCharlotteAnn It just means it’s easy at marking, different brand tags in the different categories, then easy to find and upload, as the different makes of tags have a different code on there nils id
@EmCharlotteAnn Anytime they are weighed or go through auto drafter, it picks up the 3 different categories automatically. I find lambs have a habit of getting in the wrong mobs so pretty handy I think. No extra cost and quite a time saver
@EmCharlotteAnn I’ve used for 7 years. I buy 3 different brands of tags, brand a. Terminal b. Breeder ewe c. Sale ewe. Then it is easy to find the different brands of tags on NLIS database, upload into xr5000 as lifetime info and the 3 category’s are auto drafted, when weighing. Saves a draft
@RichieKirkland2 @RavenLimousin My bearers are near the joins, but not right on, very ridged as Richie says. Shit through easy. Sheets are 3.6x1.2m so quite heavy. But quick to lay
