Most CVs lie.
Not because job seekers are dishonest.
But because they don’t know how to tell the truth well.
After helping 100s of job seekers land roles at top companies across industries, I’ve seen one pattern:
Exaggeration may get you through the door, but it will hurt your credibility.
You don’t need to fake it on your CV.
You just need to frame it better.
PS: If you know someone who's job hunting, tag them or share this post to help more job seekers succeed.
The 5 common CV lies and how to tell the truth in a way that works for you
1. "I increased revenue by 50%"
(when you were just on the team, not driving the strategy).
Say this instead:
"Supported a campaign that contributed to a 50% increase in quarterly revenue through lead qualification and email outreach."
2. "Ability to work under pressure without supervision."
(Everyone says it. Few prove it).
Say this instead:
"Managed daily operations during the supervisor's 3-month absence. Kept team productivity on track and met all reporting deadlines."
3. "I'm proficient in Python" (or any technical skill when you've only watched tutorials).
Say this instead:
"Completed foundational training in Python and currently applying it to automate Excel tasks and analyse datasets."
4. "Handled customer complaints and resolved issues"
(The lie? It's too vague to be meaningful.)
Say this instead:
"Resolved 25+ weekly customer support tickets, reducing response time by 40% through clear documentation and proactive follow-up."
5. "Excellent communication skills"
(It’s just a buzzword if you don’t show how.)
Say this instead:
"Presented monthly performance reports to senior management and trained 5 new hires on internal CRM processes."
Learn how to tell the truth in a way that works for you.

Many talented job seekers get stuck in their job search
Because of this one mistake:
Not having a strategy.
Job searching without a real plan is a gamble.
And the odds are always against you.
Follow the 4 steps below to fix it.
A well-structured job search turns frustration into results.
Stop wasting your time applying without a real plan.
The candidates who land jobs every day are not lucky. They follow a proven strategy.
If you follow this strategy, you can, too.
=====
THE FOUR-STEP STRATEGY TO LAND YOUR NEXT JOB FASTER
(It works for every role)
1. Build a Standout Resume
▪︎ Customise for every role
▪︎ Keep it brief
▪︎ Use clear professional design
Don't:
Send the same resume to every job.
List tasks instead of accomplishments.
Overload with irrelevant information.
2. Be strategic with applying
▪︎ Target roles that fit your expertise
▪︎ Use https://t.co/km2xcrgkPw to personalise every application.
▪︎ Research thoroughly
Don't:
Waste time on mismatched opportunities.
Forget to follow up after submitting applications.
Use generic applications
3. Nail the Interview Process
▪︎ Do your homework about the company
▪︎ Master your story
▪︎ Practice makes perfect
▪︎ Come ready with smart questions
Don't:
Give vague answers
Fail to prepare relevant examples
Sound desperate
4. Negotiate for What You Deserve
▪︎ Know your market worth
▪︎ Understand the entire package
▪︎ Maintain a positive attitude
▪︎ Use past achievements as leverage
Don't:
Be afraid to ask for what you deserve
Mention a specific number (provide a range)
Accept without understanding the total package.

If you keep hearing you're overqualified, right?
What employers are really saying is you don't seem like a cultural fit.
It's all about culture today, right?
Employers are not doubting your skills.
They're doubting whether or not you'll adapt to their team and how they work, how they get things done.
The good news is you can fix this without faking anything.
You don't need to memorise a company's about page entirely.
You don't need to.
Uh, pretend to be something you're not, pretend to love office games, right, or gush about their innovative or inclusive culture on cue.
Cultural fit isn't about adopting their personality.
It's about aligning with their values, which they often state right on their website.
It's about showing that you respect how they operate and you're going to fit into their way of doing things, that you're adaptable, and that you'll support their way of doing things overall.
You're ready and willing to learn.
You have the potential to learn even if you've done things differently in the past.
Now, most overqualified candidates today, they get this wrong. That's what I want you to avoid.
They walk into interviews, for example, trying to stand out, right, by showing all the ways they can make the company better.
We've done that before, and here's what worked.
I have 20 years of experience in this.
Don't do that. Hiring managers today don't want to hear how you'll fix things.
They want to hear how you're going to fit in, do things their way, not disrupt things.
They are judged on retention, not transformation.
Let that sink in.
So, if you come across as someone who's going to challenge their systems, someone who's a change agent, you're not going to get hired.
They want someone who's a calming agent, OK?
Now you can avoid this by mirroring how they talk about their work.
If their job posting emphasises collaboration, use words like team alignment and shared goals.
If their mission statement mentions consistency or stability, talk about dependability and steady contribution. Again, think calming agent.
If they emphasise growth, use language like eager to learn, ready to grow with your organisation.
Not again, that you're a change agent who's going to create the growth and evaluate their performance, and find everything that's wrong, right?
These aren't about buzzwords, they're trust signals.
They show you're listening, and you're ready to do things their way.
And that's what Culture fit means to them. Listening first, leading later.
So, whether it's your resume, LinkedIn profile, or interviews, acknowledge their approach before offering your perspective.
Say this:
"I really admire how your team works cross-functionally.
I'd love to learn more about how you maintain that alignment and how I can fit into what you have built here."
Or maybe say something like:
"I see this role as a chance to build on your existing systems, right?"
Do not reinvent them.
Those lines will instantly disarm the two senior biases they have. They'll show humility without surrendering right authority.
They make you look like a partner, not a disruptor. Now remember, culture isn't about fitting into every company.
It's about finding the companies that share your values and providing and proving the right, rationale, and respect for their rhythm.
You don't have to fake excitement over perks.
You just have to show that you can contribute to their culture without clashing, because the one who gets hired today is not the smartest person in the room.
It's the one that everybody wants to work with.
@ADCNig Self deceivers... A party that can't meet INEC deadline. ADC can't stand any elections... Have they even finished court mess first? Instead of joining hands with the most credible candidates, OK, for South to complete their turn,,, selfish man
@aonanuga1956 The ones that masquerades and bells were rung around igbo populated areas in Lagos for them to not come out on election day IF they were not going to vote for APC governor, and the governor reaped that benefit, wasn't that inciting?
PIN 9
I used to spend hours guiding job seekers on how to craft the perfect job application.
Until I found a framework that doesn't require that much time.
I shared it with them. It takes only a few minutes. The results? Their interview invite rate has tripled.
Here's how you turn job descriptions into standout applications that recruiters love:
(Without wasting time on guesswork)
Here's my 3-step process:
Step 1: Analyze the job description:
→ What skills are they looking for?
→ What problems are they trying to solve?
Step 2: Match your experience:
→ Do you have relevant achievements?
→ Can you frame your experience to address their needs?
Step 3: Use a tailored template:
What format works best (resume, cover letter, LinkedIn message)?
→ Does it highlight your value clearly?
When you do it this way, you:
● Let the job description guide you.
● Let your experience fit easily into what they need.
● Let your application stand out.
With this method, you can actually apply for several jobs a day without being overwhelmed.
The game is to work smarter, not harder.

Some leaders delegate well on paper but still micromanage or resent the result.
