Before $SHX, before @IBM and before @strongholdpay even existed, @ItsSeanBennett was already building on @Ripple.

Then @StellarOrg launched.

Within hours, he was building its first anchor.

That’s where the Stronghold story really begins. 👇

Stronghold’s own history says Bennett began building a gateway on Ripple in 2013.

When Stellar launched in 2014, he created Coinex, described by Stronghold as the network’s first anchor.

At the same time, @TammyCamp was Stellar’s Head of Growth.

That connection matters.

Camp and Bennett say they discovered their shared vision through their work on Stellar in 2014.

Three years later, they founded Stronghold to connect traditional settlement rails with blockchain-based payments.

Stronghold didn’t discover Stellar later.

Its roots were already inside the early Ripple–Stellar payments ecosystem.

Then came IBM.

@strongholdpay says @IBM became its first client.

In 2018, Stronghold USD launched on Stellar.

It was later used for instant USD settlement by participants in IBM Blockchain World Wire.

So this wasn’t simply another stablecoin experiment.

Stronghold was already sitting at the intersection of @StellarOrg, enterprise payments and tokenized dollars.

And then the Ripple connection resurfaced.

Stronghold lists Xpring, now RippleX, among the investors that supported its growth.

Think about the historical loop:

Sean Bennett → Ripple → Stellar → Stronghold

and later:

Ripple/Xpring → Stronghold

The ecosystems often presented as competitors were connected through people, capital and infrastructure much earlier than many realize.

Now look at what Stronghold became.

In 2024, @NachaOnline named Stronghold a Preferred Partner for ACH Experience and ISO 20022.

Stronghold provides embedded pay-by-bank infrastructure and uses ISO 20022 messaging across payment workflows, including treasury reporting and payment acceptance.

It means Stronghold itself operates payment infrastructure using the standard.

So where does $SHX actually fit?

According to Stronghold, SHX is used across its ecosystem for:

• merchant and customer rewards
• liquidity for Merchant Financing
• governance

And there is an actual economic mechanism behind that utility.

SHX governance approved burning 70% of a Merchant Cash Advance origination fee, with the remaining 30% going to pool contributors.

That proposal was implemented in April 2024.

The governance layer has continued evolving too.

SHX holders have voted on governance rules, smart-contract recording of votes, locked SHX and delegated voting power.

One proposal moved governance votes from multiple ledgers toward a unified smart contract on Stellar.

So @StellarOrg remains important beneath the increasingly multi-chain SHX architecture.

And here comes one of my favorite twists.

SHX started with Stellar.

It later expanded to Ethereum and Solana.

And now SHX has also bridged to the XRP Ledger, following a community governance vote, using Squid and Axelar.

So after all these years, the historical circle gets another layer:

Ripple → Bennett → Stellar → Stronghold → SHX → XRPL. 👀

The documented history is very interesting.

@strongholdpay grew out of people who were there during the formative years of blockchain payments.

Ripple.
Stellar.
IBM.
Xpring/RippleX.
Nacha.
And now XRPL again.

Different relationships. Different periods. But a remarkable amount of infrastructure history converging around one company.

Maybe the most interesting thing about $SHX isn’t its market cap.

Maybe it’s where Stronghold came from, what it has built, and how much of the early Ripple–Stellar payment story still lives inside it.
