Evidence-based policymaking is my jam. Currently @JHUBloombergCtr & @JohnsHopkinsFed Retired Hill rat. Fmr SVP @VirtaHealth. Aspen Institute HIF. Tweets my own.
@Farzad_MD 3/ It is time for *some* folks to stop looking for excuses to gut Medicare and build on recent gains to ensure best value for beneficiaries, providers AND taxpayers. As for the need to tamp down on private sector spending, @virtahealth has some ideas that can help...
@Farzad_MD 1/ What a fun thread @Farzad_MD! LOADS of variables in play, and I 100% agree w/ your points (and those raised by @sangerkatz). Simplistically, also worth noting that CBO historically underestimates health savings and overestimates health spending for leg proposals.
"I see Virta as a healthcare disparities elimination company."
@ScanHealthPlan CEO @sacjai explains why he believes Virta is "in the business of reducing healthcare disparities" by helping individuals across many different communities to improve their health.
@HNeprash @EGolberstein @IshaniG@Michael_Chernew Love "hearing" your voice out here! Keep it up. What should we do? Though data should be your north star (as always for you!), you'll know you got it right if everyone is a bit irritated!
@Michael_Chernew Perhaps these record high rebates, which buy supplemental benefits, correlate with record high enrollment? Would be great to get additional clarity on which rebate benefits are actually used by MA enrollees....
Love that last night's SOTU addressed insulin affordability, but even better to make it unnecessary. @BlueShieldofCA is now working with us to help their patients reliably and sustainably reverse type 2 diabetes through nutrition and advanced telehealth. #roadtoreversal

Good to see the @nytimes and @askdrfatima raising awareness on #obesity as a disease vs. lack of willpower. ๐๐ช
My only concern is the soundbite simplification of treating disease with medication. Drugs should only be a piece of the puzzle, and only when needed.

@robertlufkinmd Ppl swapped fat for sugar b/c DGA changed to recommend low-fat, high-carb diet. Even those who donโt follow the pyramid are adversely affected b/c DGAs drive countless federal and state policy choices and investment. Tragic.
And yetโฆletโs focus on that last piece. Need to bust dangerous myth that lifestyle changes are ineffective. Many are, but not all. How about changing school-provided meals, nutrition education and subsidies to get at root cause?!
