@roadcc Like safe and convenient routes to enable children to walk or cycle to school, and to enable them to be independently mobile without needing to rely on their parents to drive them everywhere? ๐
@MrMatthewTodd@VanessaOnAir@LBC Green politicians don't have much influence, and although they have loads of local councillors, there isn't much evidence to suggest that they are really delivering their policies on a local scale. Moaning from the sidelines is so much easier than delivering something better.
@London_Cycling Widespread uptake of e-bikes instead of cars in urban areas could seriously threaten the profits made by the motor industry, and that is probably the main reason why people are so keen to clamp down on them.
A stark message from J. Hansen today at the Int. Court of Justice -"Human-caused climate change is poised to be the greatest injustice in history. The reach of CC is global. The scope of climate change, within the lifetime of a young person today, will be monumental and tragic"
@CHAIRRDRF@transportgovuk@ShivajiShivaLaw Cycling in London is fantastic, so many people on bikes everywhere just using them to get wherever they are going. Virtually all of the rest of the UK is literally decades behind, regardless of which political parties are in control ๐
@APPGCW Will a "people first approach" assume that all of those people are going to drive virtually all of their journeys, as all previous approaches to transport have?
@IrishRainforest How important are cats compared to pesticide use and habit loss in terms of declines in wildlife populations? In the UK at least garden birds seem to be less under threat than farmland birds, but there are probably far more cats in gardens than there are on large farms.
@jonburkeUK Before the 1990's cycling on trunk roads was fine, the fact that people riding bikes these days have mobile phones really isn't the reason why they go to considerable lengths these days to avoid riding on main roads ๐
In the Netherlands, they've used bus stop bypasses for decades. This is partially why the Dutch cycle 1,108km a year and the English cycle 97km a year.
The data on bus stop bypass safety is clear, which is why anti-bus stop bypass campaigners ignore it.
@APPGCW Cycling in London certainly feels a great deal less dangerous than the vast majority of other UK towns and cities, and that is basically why there is so much more cycling there than elsewhere in the country.
@James_BG At the end of the day, decarbonisation is a threat to the profits of the fossil fuel industry and that is the reason why they are reluctant to pursue it.
@DonnachadhMc@JustStop_Oil@RogerHallamCS21 It sends a strong message that driving wherever you like is considered to be a much more fundamental human right in this country than access to clean air to breathe.
