@THEBUNNIESTBOO I read The Warmth Of Other Suns (Isabel Wilkerson) earlier this year; it follows the lives of 4 people/families who participated in the great migration, and the stories were horrific (I’m not American so had never heard about this phenomenon, or at least not in as much detail)
@YoungWolf989@bryndensraven Don’t remember Forks, but Fishes continues to live rent free in my head 3 years later. That said, I finally (randomly) finished S4 yesterday, only to see that S5 was also being released yesterday. I won’t be watching but am sad it has come to this; it used to be such a good show.
@KaiUzama Twins re: feeling of home (+ it’s not even boring to me if I’m being honest; 6+ years in and I’m fortunate to say I’m always having a good time) https://t.co/JRuccjqsRB
@0x@Mrpossidez This. I can’t overstate how amazing it feels to live in a walkable area with trees, parks, cafés, bars, stores, amenities; to not have to worry about power, water, noise, etc. To not mind going home after a trip because I actually enjoy the home I’ve made here. 10/10, no notes.
@therealchilotam + I think this is partly lazy child rearing - that and/or the inability to think about second order effects: if you have a child who ‘talks back’ it’s far easier to suppress that in the moment rather than take the time to teach firm but tactful ways to express oneself. Too bad.
@elnathan_john but… thinking that way about our own lives and low moments (even if necessary and more realistic) requires a level of courage that many (myself included, for the most part) don’t possess; hoping for a grass to grace miracle is far easier on the psyche. (3/3)
@elnathan_john but… what if ‘this’ doesn’t pass, and instead mutates or even remains as is? Such stories are fascinating to read in the abstract, but (2/3)
@YarKafanchan Thank you for introducing me to this brand. I don’t love this particular pair (the heel is AMAZING but the shape and color are not for me) but I LOVE the oak slippers on their website
“P.S. please if you get a chanse put some flowrs on Algernons grave in the bak yard.” Fuck.
Flowers For Algernon is listed as SciFi but perhaps should also be listed under horror 😭
@AM_Pines France, 2012. I was using both paper maps and Google Maps (there was no data once I left my house but I would get the directions before leaving and try to follow the path). I got lost many times (not helped by the fact that my french was not great re: asking for help)!
@Ace_KYD@MazeDaMouth Memory: in JS1 Mrs O asked us names of continents and I, unsure, mumbled “Antarctica?”; girl sitting beside me instantly yelled ‘Taftica’ and Mrs O said “very good”.
I can’t overstate how dazed I was - at the audacity to ‘steal’ my answer, say it wrong, and get ‘full marks’ 😄
@Gbemisoke … and in any case I was curious because how can it be that after all that admonishment, the next thing is “I hate divorce” (and we’ve taken it to mean - as referred to in the quoted video - that people must remain together no matter the circumstance)? So I went to Google… (2/2)
