I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.

Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies. That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.

Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games.

Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on.

As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen.

Virgil's longevity is also streets above any of the United CBs.

He's been the best CB in the league since joining Southampton.

Vidic was the best for 2 years - 08/09 and 10/11, Stam for 2 years - 98/99 and 99/00 . Pallister was the best for 1 year - 93/94

Van Dijk has been the undeniable best CB in the league for 7 of 11 seasons - 15/16, 16/17, 18/19, 19/20, 21/22, 23/24 and 24/25. Has a strong case for 2 other seasons, 17/18 and 25/26.

The only 2 he definitely wasn't the best were 20/21 which he missed through injury and 22/23.

Just in case anyone wants to cry about Rio because he was in the team of the season 6 times.

04/05 - Ricardo Carvalho was the best in the league, King and Terry was also better than Rio.

06/07 - Carvalho was the best in the league. Vidic was also better than Rio.

07/08 - John Terry was the best in the league that season. Rio had a case for second though Vidic and Carvalho were both better when fit.

08/09 - Vidic was the best in the league that season. Rio had a case for second.

12/13 - Vincent Kompany was the best, Jan Vertonghen was second.
