The job of the District Attorney is to keep our communities safe, to treat all people with dignity & respect, and to build a system that fosters mutual respect.
To date, our office has increased the number of sex assault convictions secured by our office, established policy changes, increased staffing & resources for victims, & enhanced training for our staff to ensure sex assault victims are treated with dignity & respect.
In June 2021, Travis County settled the landmark suit filed against former Travis County District Attorneys, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, the Austin Police Department, the City of Austin, and Travis County. The City of Austin settled its lawsuit in 2022.
The documentary #AnArmyofWomen follows the courageous sex assault survivors who filed a class-action lawsuit in June 2018, alleging police and prosecutors in Austin and Travis County did not adequately investigate or prosecute the sexual assaults they reported since 2006.
April is also #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth and #ChildAbusePreventionMonth.
Our office hosted a gathering to thank our Special Victims Unit & Child Abuse Unit for their relentless work toward helping victims of child abuse & sexual violence by seeking justice & helping them heal.
Earlier this week, DA Garza joined our county leaders, law enforcement, and community partners in proclaiming this week as #CrimeVictimsRightsWeek. Our office stands in solidarity with victims and honors their resilience, strength, and courage.

Yesterday, our DA announced that our office partnered with Travis CTY Clerk Velva Price, Travis CTY Attorney Delia Garza, and AISD Board Trustee Chair Arathi Singh for our Expunction Expo on 4/27/24 to help clear people’s records who were arrested but never convicted of a crime.
When community members get their records cleared, it is easier for them to find a job, apply for an apartment, or apply for financial aid. Helping to clear people's records creates more stability in our community and makes us all more safe.

Travis County officials will host an Expunction Expo to help residents clear their criminal records on Saturday, 4/27/24. Residents who successfully complete the expunction process will improve their access to jobs, higher education & better housing.
Today, our office observed #InternationalWomensDay to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, & political achievements of women worldwide. Our office is proud of the women leading various divisions in our office & dedicated staff working tirelessly to serve our community.
For the first time, the benefit concert will be a live music and comedy event, with performances until 10:00 p.m. Donations will go to the @SIMSfoundation , whose mission is to help reduce substance use issues while supporting and enhancing the well-being of the music community.
