Sorry I didn’t give a “Shine ✨ Update” yesterday but it wasn’t a good day.
The vet called me at 3:30 am. She said Shine was not doing well. His heart rate was still 82, he was ataxic, constantly throwing his head and not responding to medication or treatment. Not a good prognosis.
I headed straight to the vet.
I knew the moment I walked into his stall it was time.
He was so stoic and fighting but he was suffering.
The only thing more painful than letting him go would be letting him suffer one more minute.
We are stewards of their care and always have to do what’s best for them no matter how painful it is for us.
I am so grateful I got to be with him when he left this earth, to say goodbye, to thank him, to hold his head and kiss his sweet face.
Heaven got the best palomino gelding ever yesterday.

I want to thank you all for your prayers and love.
Those of you who’ve followed me a while know what a special horse he was and know he was my whole heart ♥️.
Shine ✨ carried me through some of the darkest times in my life.
He was my best friend, trusted partner, my protector, a great listener, had the best crying shoulder, was a total smartass, a clown.
He’d be very mad if I left out he was handsome AF.
He taught me more about life and about myself than any person or book ever has.
He was a once in a lifetime horse.
I am so grateful I had the honor of being his human.

I can’t begin to describe the sadness and agony my heart is feeling.

I just stopped by the West L.A. shelter with Robert Cabral to meet the beautiful dogs, speak with the hard working volunteers, and learn more about the conditions there.

So many loving dogs, just like Julia, are waiting for a home. The volunteers work so hard to walk them, nurture them, and give them the love and attention they deserve while helping them find families.
