Tope Lawani has invested billions of dollars across Africa over two decades.
The firm he co-founded, Helios Investment Partners, is one of the world's largest private equity firms focused exclusively on the continent.
Over the last 22 years, Helios has deployed more than $4 billion of equity capital into Africa and generated $5 billion in liquidity from it.
And yet, Lawani's most powerful argument for Africa isn't about money.
Rather, it's that the world is changing fast:
• 55 of the NBA's 135 international players this season are from Africa or are first-generation members of the diaspora — when Lawani was in college, there were only one or two
• In the NFL, there are 125+
• In European football leagues: 550+
• In music, Afrobeats has overtaken K-pop as the world's fastest-growing music genre
• In literature, African writers are winning the Booker Prize, the Grand Prix, and other awards at a rising rate
None of this is coincidence.
It's demographics.
"That's where the output is coming from," Lawani says.
In the last 75 years, Africa went from 9% of the world's population to 19%. In the next 75, it's projected to double again to 38%.
In the next quarter century, 1 in 4 people on Earth will be African — and that's not counting the hundreds of millions in the diaspora.
By 2100, 2 in 5.
Africa's rise isn't a prediction. It's already in motion.
As Lawani puts it, "Whether people are looking or not looking — they'll realize that, somehow or another, Africa has kind of taken over the world."
The inevitability of Africa.

2025 was a remarkable year for inflation in Ghana. From 23.5% in January to 5.4% in December, the numbers tell a story worth understanding.
But the national picture does not tell the whole story. Inflation in 2025 was not uniform across regions. Some households experienced faster relief, while others continued to face elevated costs, especially in key essentials. Understanding these differences is critical. The 2025 Annual Inflation Report released by the Ghana Statistical Service highlights these dynamics in detail.
This video walks you through the key findings from the report.

A hilarious incident occurred at Nkwatia Government Hospital, Kwahu, when the family of a man who had been declared dead arrived and paid his medical bills, only to discover that he was alive on the hospital bed.
According to reports, the man had been admitted with a serious illness, but all efforts to reach his family to settle the bills had proved futile. The nurses who had been caring for him for weeks then arranged a prank with him by obtaining his family’s contact details and informing them that he had passed away. In the twinkling of an eye, the family arrived and paid the entire bill, only to get the shock of their lives when they saw him alive.
