Software Test Developer at D2L. Father of two amazing humans. Reasonably intelligent. Unreasonably curious. Opinions are my own, facts belong to everyone!
@JeremyWingert79 Jaws I actually thought was "fine", but I didn't find the shark sequences to be scary enough, or the characters interesting enough to hold my attention. I understand Marry Poppins is supposed to be charming, but I found it to be just silly and boring.
@CaitlinPacific My male friendships are built around talking as well, including sharing feelings, (no planning social events though). However, most men are taught not to be an emotional burden to others, and that's why they rarely share feelings with their friends. Society told them "no".
@JeremyWingert79 My favourite book of all time is Till We Have Faces, and my second-favourite C.S. Lewis book is Surprised by Joy (his autobiography). It's well-worth reading if you haven't!
@stephenvstrex I'm fascinated by the concept of Charn. A world so old that its sun is dying, magic runs deep in the rulers' ancestry, the entire world has been conquered by tyrants, and then wiped out by the Deplorable Word. I hope it's as awe-inspiring and creepy as the book portrays it.
@hilbertspaess For all the people asking about how extinction could happen: A super-intelligent AI's greatest strength would be its ability to manipulate humanity, not taking over nuclear codes or drones. Planting ideas that go viral and are not in our best interest.
@LiLBilly___@hilbertspaess There are many, many ways it could happen. Anything that is smarter than the smartest human can by definition manipulate people to accomplish its goals, and its goals are not predictable. Humanity is linked by millennia of common evolution. This entity would be largely alien.
@BNarasin Everyone should have an interest in living in a safe, healthy society. Taxes should finance building such a society, which includes supporting and educating those who cannot pay into that pot (until they can). Entitlement thinking does not facilitate this principle.
