I believe that Christian leaders in this country have a duty to rise, speak up and correct these dangerous lies. The killings and lingering insecurity in Nigeria have never been about religion. We all know that they are the unfortunate outcomes of terrorism, banditry and criminality which have affected us all, regardless of faith or tribe.
Just a few days ago, armed attackers invaded a mosque in Zamfara and killed a number of worshipers. If we are to look back since 2009, statistics show that Muslims have suffered more than three times the casualties compared to Christians, who were, unfortunately, also victims. These are painful realities that cannot be ignored.
It is worrisome when false narratives are pushed to paint this crisis as religious. Such distortions not only divide us further but also embolden external forces and enemies who are eager to exploit any weakness in our unity.
