Echoing the words of Dr Limiaa Ahmed, who briefed the UNSC yesterday, "there can be no peace in Sudan without women"
Today(6.19), on the occasion of the #UNSC briefing on Sudan, Ambassador Joonkook Hwang delivered a joint statement at a media stakeout on behalf of UNSC signatories of #WPS Shared Commitments on the situation of women and girls in Sudan.

In light of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict on the 19th of June, the signatories of WPS Shared Commitments called for an immediate cessation of all acts of sexual and gender-based violence, and for accountability. We also expressed our commitment to supporting a survivor-centered approach and demanded the full, equal, meaningful, and safe participation of Sudanese women and women’s organizations in all political processes.
Delighted to attend the @UNPeacebuilding Fund Strategic Dialogue hosted by @NorwayMFA this week. Following on from IE hosting the Dialogue in '23, we discussed key issues such as conflict prevention, supporting UN transitions and how to engage in politically constrained contexts.
Both the Youth Peace & Security and Women, Peace & Security agendas are incredibly important in their own right, but neither operates in a vacuum.
We need to adopt an intersectional lens on peace & security for more inclusive peacebuilding processes.

Gaza is a small, densely populated enclave. One cannot bomb an area like that without dire consequences for the population.
We urge Israel to stop its military operation in Rafah.
We need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages & a massive surge in aid.
⚠ Conflict is blocking progress on #climateaction, while the #climatecrisis is fuelling conflict. 🤝 But with the right approach, climate policies and programmes can promote #peace. Here's 8 ways it can work:
Delighted to welcome @ISSAFRICA to Dublin this week to discuss their latest research on the Sahel and the Horn, and the importance of centering African voices as we work towards solutions for peace🕊️

Thank you to @EU2024BE for hosting the EU Taskforce on WPS last week. Great to hear from the EU and MS about ongoing work to counter the backlash against women’s rights globally, as well as insights from @ISS_Research and @UN_Women on the Sahel. Vital to keep up this momentum
Pleasure to host @cliona_raleigh last week for a Global Policy Series talk about the ACLED project and trends in global conflict. Interesting insights on conflict as a feature of modern governance and political contestation, rather than an aberration, in many contexts. @ACLEDINFO

❗️ war is gendered, so too must be peace;
❗️participation & representation (of women) must go together in peace processes;
❗️vital importance of documentation
It's Day 2 at the @SIPRIorg#SthlmForum. The panel asks if our conflict prevention system is broken, and if so, what will replace it?
We need to work at multiple levels and with a broad range of stakeholders. There's no easy route to peace agreements.
🇮🇪Amb Mythen addressed today’s SDG 16 High-Level Conference.
He stressed that conflict, violence & inequality fracture our societies & are major barriers to sustainable development.
#SDG16, which calls for Peace🕊️, Justice⚖️ & Strong Institutions🏛️, is vital to the 2030 Agenda.
