Can military strategy and intelligence methodology inspire new ways to treat cancer? Have a look at our recent paper in @trendscancer
https://t.co/3ocD3VE9Dp
@trendscancer Finally, we introduce the the F3EAD anti-terror intel cycle to the world of cancer, stressing the importance of capitalising on molecular data from cancer cells having survived treatment to plan for our next move.
@trendscancer We then go deeper into the Cold War Soviet concept of "reflexive control" as a starting point to how we can lure/shape cancer cell populations to become more, not less vulnerable to treatment over time.
@trendscancer We then point to three critical vulnerabilities of cancer cells, where the host (patient) has an advantage but where cancer is at a disadvantage: (1) Cell-cell collaboration (2) Host-resource dependence, and (3) Lack of long-term planning.
@trendscancer We start by looking at cancer drug resistance to highlight the "antagonistic" features of cancer, i.e. that our therapeutic actions are bound to create a defensive reaction towards resistance in many cancers. We compare this to Clausewitz's concept of Zweikampf

In a 1973 lecture Sir Michael Howard discussed surprise, noting “this is an aspect...which needs to be studied above all others in the Armed Forces: the capacity to adapt oneself to the utterly unpredictable, the entirely unknown. Today, another surprise. 1/25🧵
