I don’t know who needs to hear this, but as a Moroccan Jew, I am not closer to being Arab than my Ashkenazi Jewish brethren.
My family’s diaspora passed through North Africa. That does not make us Arab Jews.

Jews in Arab and Muslim countries were not treated as Arabs. They were treated as Jews with a different community, different legal status, and different rules. This included the jizya tax under Islamic law.

Moroccan Jews have a deep and particular connection to Morocco. Many also hold a deep loyalty to the Moroccan Crown. Yet that connection exists not because we were Arabs. It exists because Morocco, at its best, gathered its citizens under the banner of Moroccan nationality.

When the King famously said during the Vichy period that there were no Jews or Muslims, only Moroccans, that was precisely the point. Nationality served to protect a people who were otherwise seen as distinct.

Being a Jew from Morocco does not make me Arab any more than being a Jew from Poland makes an Ashkenazi Jew Polish in the ethnic sense.

We are Jews from different diasporas but the same people.

If social media and podcasts had existed in 1960, a lot of people would probably have told you that Israel was the real villain for capturing Adolf Eichmann.

Not because Eichmann was innocent. Everyone knew he was one of the chief architects of the Holocaust. The outrage was that Israel had dared to send agents into another country to bring him to justice.

The UN condemned Israel. Governments protested. Much of the international conversation became less about the Nazi who helped murder millions of Jews and more about whether Israel had violated Argentina’s sovereignty.

Today, virtually everyone agrees Israel did the right thing. Eichmann stood trial, the world heard the testimony of Holocaust survivors, and justice was finally served.

The lesson is bigger than Eichmann.

International condemnation has never been a reliable measure of whether Israel is acting morally. When Jews are weak, the world condemns their suffering. When Jews are strong enough to defend themselves or pursue justice, the world often condemns their strength.

Israel could have waited for permission. It could have hoped another country would arrest Eichmann. It almost certainly would have meant he died a free man. Instead, Israel acted.

History remembers that decision as one of the greatest acts of justice in modern history.

The same pattern exists today. Every time Israel acts decisively, the pattern repeats: international outrage, diplomatic condemnation, and a spike in antisemitism. That doesn’t automatically make every Israeli decision correct, but history should make us skeptical of treating international condemnation as a moral verdict.

If the world’s reaction to capturing Adolf Eichmann teaches us anything, it’s that the loudest outrage in the moment is often a terrible predictor of how history will judge it.

Vance had nothing to say about Hizballah strikes against Israel, which preceded the Israeli actions. For some Tucker-Carlsonish reason, those didn’t break the ceasefire, but Israel’s response did. Vance likewise repeats jihadi talking points when he, like Trump in the video below, states that Israel targets its foes indiscriminately. As West Point professor John Spencer has abundantly documented, this charge is not true, and in fact, Israel takes great pains to avoid civilian casualties, and has done so more successfully than any other modern army.

It is actually al-Sharaa’s jihadis in Syria who target civilians indiscriminately, massacring Alawites and Christians with impunity. But he has apparently convinced Trump that his forces had nothing to do with those attacks. It didn’t occur to the president to ask why al-Sharaa didn’t move to stop them.
