MISSION The Dallas Historical Society collects preserves and exhibits the unique heritage of Dallas and Texas to educate and inspire future generations.
On November 15, 1836, Lorenzo de Zavala died. A proponent of democratic reforms, he helped draft the first Texas constitution, served as first vice president, and is believed to have designed the first Texas flag. This reproduction of that flag was donated by Joe M. Dealey, Jr.

On this day in 1886, the Texas State Fair opened in north Dallas. A rival organization, the Dallas Exposition, opened its first fair the following day. The two groups later merged to form the Texas State Fair and Dallas Exposition, eventually becoming the State Fair of Texas.
On this day in 1839, Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas, and his cabinet arrived in the new capital city of Austin.
