Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
Voters should pick their representatives, not the other way around. Glad to get the chance to talk to some of the volunteers and organizers doing the hard work to make sure Prop 50 passes. This vote will have critical implications, not just for California, but for our entire country.
@KamalaHarris In the past 30 years there have only been five #shutdown. For all five of them, #Republicans controlled the house. And for four of them, Republicans controlled the House and Senate…and #Trump was President.
If you still think this is a #Democrats thing, then you are in denial!

Black folks don’t need lectures—we need other races and backgrounds to hold their own accountable.
Over 80% of Black voters rejected Trump. Meanwhile, 40–50% of some of your own communities helped elect him. And yet, the demand is always on us to sacrifice more. Do more.
We oppose white supremacy. But don’t confuse our strategy for survival with silence or support. If we’re expected to show up, so should you—starting with your people.
📊 Men lie, women lie—numbers don’t.
Some have tried to twist my words as divisive. They’re not. The data shows that nearly half of certain communities are voting not just against their interests—but ours. And showing up at protest using the N-word as casually as many do in conversation. Some might let that slide, but where I’m from it’s a hell no. Full stop.
Black people are doing the work—educating our people, building power, laying foundation. So to see all this energy aimed at us is wild.
And now folks are saying, “This isn’t the time for this conversation.” They said the same thing during the election. So when is the right time to talk about how so many in other communities do direct harm to us as Black people?
If what I’m saying unsettles you, ask yourself why. There should never be confusion about where Black people stand.
The real question is: what about that 40%?
I’ll say again, some of your proximity to whiteness has your focused on the wrong people. The enemy is and always should be white supremacy. We oppose this administration and their actions, some of the conversation should be with your cousins and elder relatives.
On Memorial Day, we remember the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform and their families have made to preserve our freedom. May we always strive to honor the strength and resolve they’ve shown our country.

There is a lot of conversation about crime in the Baton Rouge mayors race. It’s concerning me that no one is articulating a clear plan on how they will build a stronger economy or hold bad cops accountable.
We continue to find out new things cops have done to harm citizens. They aren’t the answer. We have 12 different police agencies in this parish. That’s not the answer.
No one is giving a clear plan for building a stronger economy. And saying crime prevents that is an excuse to over police and give no solution to a stronger economy.
It’s use to get the white vote, and harms Black communities in the end. Why? Because our core issues don’t get fixed because we end up dealing with the police issues.
Talk about your plans to build a stronger economy or does no one have one? You won’t police your way to a better city.
