Most of you don't need to hear this, but DON'T USE @coinbase

After the @COLDCARDwallet debacle, I moved my bitcoin to a handful of custodians, including a Coinbase account that I set up about 10 years ago, to buy some time while I spun up permanent custody solutions.

When I tried to move my funds off Coinbase this morning, I was presented with a shotgun KYC. Fair play, that's what you get when you use regulated exchanges. But no matter how many different times I try, I can't get capture a photo of my ID document that is satisfactory to their system.

Moreover, to complete the transfer, Coinbase asks a series of unnecessarily invasive questions. "What are you using the bitcoin for?" "Do you intend to transfer it again after this?" It doesn't have to be this way, and in fact it is not this way with other exchanges.

So, to conclude, as if you needed another reminder, never let your bitcoin end up on Coinbase.
