The Haaland-Szoboszlai drama comes about because of the lack of a "penalty goal" option. All the discussion of VAR protocol etc is missing the point. The laws of the game incentivise Szoboszlai to deliberately foul, similar to the Suarez handball against Ghana.

Pope sits on the floor to allow Gordon to change his boots. If a GK goes down for treatment then an outfield player should have to stay off the pitch for 1 min. Maybe the captain or someone nominated by the opposing captain. #NEWMCI

@Donald_Bogle Making the original GK go off is too much of a penalty for genuine cases, but allowing a GK replacement is not enough disincentive and allows more disruption. Therefore my solution: some nominated outfielder. Various ways to select/determine that player.

@Donald_Bogle Is that such a disincentive? They were already trying to disrupt the game and now the sub GK gets to faff around with kit and gloves, to go in goal for 1 min and probs not touch the ball. Play then stopped again to switch back as they have 11 on the pitch so GK can't just run on.

@evernote I got a new PC and can't login on the web or desktop. I put in account and password and am asked for a Google code but I never had this set up. I click "need help getting the code" and then "Use a backup code" but when I enter the backup code it says it isn't valid.

The issue with time wasting isn't just the literal wasting of seconds and minutes, it's the killing of momentum that comes with it and a game clock will be a big step towards legitimising momentum killing and slowing the sport down even further (as VAR has already done).

@DaleJohnsonESPN On Upamecano "shoulder barge" you don't mention the position of the ball, which is surely relevant? I can't go around the pitch shoulder barging people off the ball, so if the referee deems that Upamecano can't play the ball and Mac Allister can, shouldn't that be considered?
