@Mitchell_A_C@bradloncar Blame Biden? How about the current slashing of NIH grant funding? The biotech and pharma pipelines will be empty in five years. They live off of basic and translational science discoveries.
Dr. James Beck, Chief Scientific Officer of the Parkinson’s Foundation, discusses its PD GENEration study of thousand of people with PD, offering free genetic counseling while facilitating gene-specific clinical trials. https://t.co/pgkRD2rYMT #Parkinsons
Each November is National Family Caregivers Month. Here we highlight the experiences of two people who care for a person with Parkinson’s disease. One lives far from a parent with PD, & one lives with his partner with young onset PD. https://t.co/luYYu7LQex
In this podcast Dr. Michael Okun explains some of the current tools for making a Parkinson’s diagnosis, how they are used, and some of their limitations. https://t.co/DQ5HoXDZFL

Exercise is vital for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) to maintain balance, mobility, & activities of daily living, & it may slow disease progression. Physical Therapist Patricia Brown, PT, DPT discusses how to exercise safely with PD.

@TexasMoran@ChuckRossDC And where do you think she grew up? It was Oakland, CA, Champaign, Il, then back to CA. Then from 1976-1982 she lived and went to school in Montreal (ages 12-18). So 6 out of her 59 years she was out of the U.S.
@andremillet@MichaelOkun It matters not if the CSF ratio biomarker is cause or effect, just that it is sufficiently predictive. But your point is well taken: not to think that treating & therefore lowering the biomarker will have a beneficial effect. (Will silencing the rooster stop the sun from rising?)
@MichaelOkun@MDJ_Journal Could there be a common mechanism but diabetes not being causal? Does abnormal alpha-synuclein start in the gut (affecting the pancreas?) then migrating to the CNS via the vagus nerve? Evidence that total but not partial vagotomy may lower PD risk.
@SteveStuWill These findings go back at least to the 1960's using rat models. A question for today would be how may endocrine disrupters found in the environment affect gender determination.
@MichaelOkun More evidence for the Braak hypothesis that some PD starts in the gut. The vagus nerve may be the conduit to the brain. https://t.co/ScM7flAQEO

@stridinstrider Exactly. When Trump said in the debate that Biden has never fired anyone, Biden should have said, "Right! I know how to pick good people right off the bat." But to get the team, its leader must be electable. Biden has lost his sharpness. Time for a better candidate.
@BrundinPatrik I know one can not make a diagnosis from afar, but what we see is: masked facies, bradykinesia, stiffness, small steps, trouble turning. Anything else?
The new Parkinson’s Foundation Hospital Safety Guide helps people with the disease communicate their unique needs to hospital staff. Annie Brooks discusses it & its checklist to create a hospital “go bag” for emergencies.#Parkinsons https://t.co/7aBcGPN64X
