The public has a right & a duty to understand immigration policy. I used to help out with that as a reporter; now I do it at @immcouncil. All tweets my own.
NEW FROM ME:
The government will do things that hurt people.
But knowing exactly what it is doing — & therefore who’s most at risk — is at the foundation of fighting against it. Anything else is doing Trump’s job for him.
Here’s a start.

ICE is acting like it owns Americana and America. It doesn’t.
Indycar, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indy 500 are avatars of a better, more welcoming America.
We get a say in the things that matter to us, too.

@marshallpruett@JusticeBrosInc@TOMotorsports Okay seriously, has anyone asked IMS or the series about DHS and ICE using “Speedway Slammer” and Indycar imagery? Is there any hope that the series’ protectiveness toward its own IP will get them to tell the government to buzz off?
@JayLeonard Not to talk out of school too much but this was actually the lightest edit I’ve ever received from them, which as a writer is terrifying because that’s what makes you start to suspect something is actually really good
Just texted my brother, who lives in Wisconsin, about a voting plan.
Voting is good.
Knowing in advance when, where, how you will get to the polls is good.
Making sure your loved ones — esp if they actually have representation in Congress :/ — also know these things is good.
Just set up a recurring donation for Bolts.
It’s tremendously hard, at the level of individual journalists or of newsrooms, to sustain yourself if your aim is not to win awards or change history but simply to inform the public.
It is also the highest goal.
as we launch into the final stretch of the election period, our team at Bolts is working hard to get you unique reporting & guides. We don't require a subscription, but at end of the day media doesn't come for free: if you have the ability & desire to support us, become a member!
NEW FROM @immcouncil:
A mass deportation operation would cost the US government an estimated $315 billion.
"Starting" with 1 million people a year? That's $88B annually.
And GDP would take a hit of 4.2-6.8%. That's the Great Recession on the LOW end. https://t.co/cdarBMnCq0
(Every time I log onto this app because there are things that people need to know who won't learn about if they don't see it here, I am reminded that it is, as a general rule, a very bad idea to still be on this app.)
@timothypmurphy GLAD YOU ASKED: "In 2022, more than one third of the country’s plasterers and stucco masons, drywall installers and ceiling tilers, and roofers were undocumented...and about one quarter of construction laborers."
Apropos of nothing (nothing at all!) here are the FACTS — probably more nuanced than you’d think! — about whether recent Haitian arrivals are “legal.”
(And why that’s a less important question than whether they would be under a future president.)

This pretends to be a blog post about Haitians, but it's really about how hundreds of thousands of people have been shuffled around under new Biden programs. Whether they're "legal" is ultimately the wrong point. The point is they're legally vulnerable. https://t.co/odnl2W0PFz
