@democracycoma1_@NJ_Timothy Whether there is any set of facts that could justify a sentence of less than seven years' imprisonment following a rape conviction is a highly contestable position.
The idea that it's possible to disarm the entire population of the country is for the birds. We must instead deliberately arm those within it that we know we can trust, and who will use the privilege wisely. We must empower our defenders.
Of course our Sikh friends must not be prohibited from carrying kirpans because a lying murderer killed someone with some other knife. The suggestion is ridiculous, as it would have been had the murderer been a Scotsman claiming the Bowie knife in his trosuers was a sgian dubh.
Ordinary citizens going about their business with no particular duties, but sworn as constables and trained appropriately. They would be empowered to defend civility and at need, the life and limb of innocents with any and all force. We can call them 'deputy constables'.
@Boris417197813@londonfox2030@RMTunion@BellaWallerstei What a load of old rubbish. Employers introduced these and other benefits because they wouldn't have been able to attract the employees they wanted otherwise. You should thank the free market.
@SockCouncil@thefatporcupine@RMTunion@BellaWallerstei Of course! No problem with people withdrawing their labour. What I do have a problem with is the union operating what amounts to a closed shop, and employers being legally prohibited from firing striking workers should they conclude their labour wasn't so essential after all.
The latest fly-tipping report from the NRCN, in collaboration with @_FutureCountry, has been launched.
Breaking the Cycle: Tackling Fly-Tipping and Waste Crime in the UK explores the scale of waste crime, gaps in enforcement, and the urgent need for stronger national action.
Our first afternoon session will see @aliceTTimes interview @KirstieMAllsopp, primarily about fly-tipping and waste crime. Kirstie kindly provided the foreword to our joint report with the @RuralCrimeNtwk, which is launching now.

What I'm nost confused about re. Nicola Sturgeon is that her claim to have known nothing about the motor-home directly contradicts what the SNP was saying when it was first discovered in April 2023, two months after her still-mysterious resignation as First Minister of Scotland.
So either Nicola Sturgeon is lying now or Humza Yousaf and the SNP were lying in 2023, when the vehicle was discovered and seized by police. I don't see a third possibility here.
