As the Lagos Regional Workshop under the EU Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Project entered its second day, participants engaged in some of the most reflective, challenging, and practical conversations of the programme so far.

Participants were grouped to work in teams. Using professional fact-checking methodologies, they conducted image verification exercises, analysed suspicious claims, authenticated sources, and applied OSINT techniques to uncover the truth behind complex information scenarios.

In a practical session on Verification & Fact-Checking, @themuslaw, FCA Fact-Checker, led participants through essential verification workflows: reverse image search, source authentication techniques, OSINT methods & responsible use of AI verification tools for electoral content.
Day 1 focused on one critical question: What does Nigeria's information environment look like as we approach another major electoral cycle?
Leading this conversation was Tonye Bakare, @AFP Nigeria Correspondent, who led a great session on the pre-electoral information landscape.
the workshop is designed to strengthen the capacity of frontline information actors to respond to mis/disinformation, hate speech, and emerging AI-related threats ahead of key electoral milestones, including Ekiti & Osun governorship elections & Nigeria's 2027 general elections.
