PRESS RELEASE
E-CMR: POLICE HIGHLIGHTS BENEFITS, EFFICIENCY OF APPLICATION TO CURB VIOLENT CRIMES
As IGP Orders Suspension of Enforcement Process, Massive Enlightenment of Nigerian Residents
Following the reconfiguration and commencement of the electronic central motor registry registration process (e-CMR), the Police has deemed it necessary to highlight the benefits and effectiveness of the e-CMR initiative which is designed to ensure the safety and security of all types of vehicles including motorcycles by collating data imputed into the system by vehicle owners and acting on such to flag the vehicles if reported stolen.
The e-CMR will provide a firsthand database to the Force for curbing vehicular crimes as dedicated officers can access real-time comprehensive data of every vehicle on their tablets. Similarly, the e-CMR will prevent multiple registration of vehicles and serve as a database to collate biometric and other data of vehicle owners and individuals, adding value to the national database and incident report portal generated from other Ministries, Departments and Agencies towards general security.
Furthermore, contrary to news making the round and insinuations about the e-CMR, the NPF wishes to state categorically that the e-CMR is not a revenue generating platform but an initiative to digitalize policing for effectiveness and general safety of lives and property of Nigeria residents.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has ordered an immediate suspension of the proposed enforcement of the e-CMR initially scheduled to commence on the 29th of July, 2024. This is to give ample opportunity for mass enlightenment and education of all citizens and residents on the process, benefits and effectiveness in solving the challenge of vehicle related crimes, and protection of individual and corporate vehicle ownership.
Members of the public are urged to obtain the digitalized CMR certificate online at https://t.co/IEtWNGbqD5. For further inquiries, individuals can contact the 24/7 hotline (02018870133), CMR Command Centre at FHQ Abuja (08117777666, 09169892000) and FHQ Annex Lagos (08117777555, 09169891000). Technical support is also available at [email protected].
In light of this, we seek the understanding and support of all well-meaning Nigerians and residents to key into the e-CMR system. In the same vein, the IGP charges all Police officers to desist from requesting for e-CMR certificates as individuals found extorting or exploiting members of the public on the guise of not having e-CMR certificates will be sanctioned accordingly as the enforcement which will be done by only dedicated officers has been suspended till further notice.

SOWORE BEING SENT TO PRISON: A DANGEROUS REGRESSION FOR OUR DEMOCRACY
I have received, with deep concern, the news of the courtโs remand of citizen activist Omoyele Sowore in Kuje Prison.
While the judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of justice, we must consistently guard against any trend that gives the appearance of state institutions being weaponised to systematically stifle dissent, muzzle the press, or shrink the legitimate space for civic engagement in Nigeria.
A thriving democracy does not survive on the silencing of opposing voices; rather, it is anchored on the robust protection of fundamental human rights, most notably the freedoms of expression and peaceful assembly, as enshrined in our Constitution. Moreover, our society is already strained by insecurity and biting economic hardship; therefore, deliberate steps should be taken, even by the courts, to avoid inflaming the situation.
When we begin to treat citizen critics, activists, and journalists as threats to state survival rather than as partners in building accountability, we signal a dangerous slide toward authoritarianism. Our current challenges, ranging from economic strain to internal security vulnerabilities, require inclusive dialogue and cohesive nation-building, not the incarceration of those who demand a better society.
I urge the relevant authorities to ensure that the rule of law is strictly adhered to, that Mr. Soworeโs constitutional rights are fully protected, and that our security and judicial institutions are used solely for the impartial administration of justice. We cannot build a New Nigeria if we continue to undermine the very democratic structures meant to protect us all. -PO
Happy Birthday to the 45th and 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. A relentless patriot who fights every day for the country he loves, the people he serves, and the American Dream. ๐บ๐ธ๐บ๐ธ
BREAKING: Trump says a deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed tomorrow.
โImmediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL.โ
The president says the agreement will permanently prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and described it as the exact opposite of the Obama-era nuclear deal.
Trump also said no money will exchange hands under the agreement and warned that if the process falls apart, the U.S. has โthe ultimate alternative.โ
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! President Trump turns 80 today.
The nation's 45th and 47th president celebrates a milestone birthday as the country prepares to commemorate America's 250th anniversary.
I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident in Ridawa village, Ghari LGA, where several hardworking Nigerians lost their lives following a pit collapse at a brick-making site.
The news of this tragedy is heartbreaking. While we speak of moving Nigeria from consumption to production, we must never forget that the โproducersโโthe labourers, brick-makers, and minersโare our greatest national asset. Losing these young men to a preventable industrial accident is a collective loss to the nation. These were citizens in the prime of their lives, engaged in the noble and demanding work of nation-building through manual labour. Their deaths are a stark reminder of the urgent need to prioritise workplace safety, especially in our informal and artisanal sectors.
My heart goes out to the families of the victims, the Ghari community in particular, and the Government of Kano State. I also commiserate with my brother, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the resilient people of Kano. We remain committed to an economic revival that protects the worker as much as it promotes industry. My prayers are with the bereaved families during this incredibly difficult time.
A New Nigeria is Possible. -PO
