Germany's Cobra 600 is essentially a flying missile rail. It copies the Shahed-136's A2A concept already demonstrated in Ukraine. It is armed with a single IRIS-T missile and comes equipped with 2x JetCat P1000 PROs for propulsion. These put out 1100N max thrust each.

Compare the P1000 to the SoluNox engines made in Pakistan, which range to about 800N per their official literature. Perhaps it was last year that I posted that these engines could enable maneuverable, nearly-attritable loyal wingmen. Now you see below what one of these might look like.

Another point of consideration is engine price. Chinese engines generating 1100N of thrust are ~$10K when bought in quantities of one(!). This is an illustration of how competition has shifted from platforms to cost + production capabilities. A reasonable cost estimate of an equivalent Chinese or Iranian "flying missile rail" is perhaps $50K.

The day after France and Germany killed the joint NGF, Airbus Defence and Space led seven German companies in sending a letter to Chancellor Merz proposing a new German-led "Team Gen 6" alliance to build a 6th-gen fighter for Europe.

The group — Airbus, Hensoldt, MBDA Deutschland, MTU, Rohde & Schwarz and others — plans to formally sign and unveil at ILA Berlin this week, timed to Germany's new national aviation strategy.

The pitch: German industry is ready to lead what Franco-German industrial politics killed.

Spain is the natural next partner; Sweden/Saab is also in play.

France will likely go its own way with a Dassault-led Rafale successor.
