@iamrahstradamus I’m surprised at you seeing that. I didn’t see anything overly concerning match up wise. Two even teams imo and SA got more good looks (interested to see the uncontested shot data though)
Nothing I saw this game worried me tbh. Truly.
It just confirmed NY is great and built well and that’ it’s even.
Wemby and Fox I think will be better and it’s more about who can manufacture best looks and win the margins.
I truly didn’t see anything that was like “oh no”.
Was just a slugfest and Brunson was great when it mattered.
Wemby and Fox and Harper and Castle all have that in them too.
Point I’m making was that was a winnable game. One where spurs got stops, kept them off offensive glass for most part and generated some good looks (which are hard to come by for these two teams)
I think, personal opinion, that people are over indexing NY after this one.
NY was tough and it was an unbelievable win for them.
But I don’t think they had it easy or did a lot of clear advantage repeatable stuff.
They hit more rough shots and imo gave up more open looks than SA did too.
Spurs got flustered sped up and abandoned team ball for iso and settled a bit much especially on a bad shooting night.
We will see but I think SA takes game 2.

De'Aaron Fox in the 4th quarter:
0 PTS
0 AST
2 TO
0-2 FG
in 11 minutes
Dylan Harper led the Spurs in scoring through 3 quarters but only played 3:33 in the fourth.
Fox was awful. Flat out. But it looked very much self inflicted.
He was scared. Timid. Couldn’t shoot or score. Picked on on defense.
He has to play assertive. He has to get north south and look to score.
He missed some easy ones imo. He got to decent spots.
I think he rebounds game 2. Wemby offense more concerning to me. He had rougher looks imo.
Jalen Brunson was best player on floor when it mattered. KAT bullied Wemby most of the game.
They played tougher and smarter (8 TO) and have shot makers when it mattered.
@JohnBoggessSA Disappointed that NY also shot poorly and you have a double digit lead and can’t keep it even when they shoot poorly.
Defense was a slugfest for both teams. Was a battle for both teams.
You have 13 point 3rd quarter lead you need to keep it. Can’t shoot like that and win when NY has best closer in the game in Brunson.
It caught up to SA when it mattered unfortunately.
But credit to NY. Tough focused team.
Spurs can win. It’s just that it’s evenly matched and not a ton of obvious clear advantages to go to.
Fox can play better. Wemby can play better. They can settle a little less and also hit open looks they generated more.
It’s thin margins for both teams so it’s more about execution and disciple in key areas vs scheme imo
