On this day, we celebrate the birth of Aram Khachaturian, one of the most influential Armenian composers of the 20th century. His extraordinary contributions shaped the landscape of Armenian music and elevated its presence on the world stage.
Born on June 6, 1903, in Tbilisi, Khachaturian hailed from a family rooted in the ancient Armenian province of Goghtan. This region, praised by the historian Movses Khorenatsi as the cradle of gifted singer-musicians, imbued Khachaturian’s heritage with a profound cultural resonance.
From an early age, Khachaturian demonstrated exceptional musical talent. He pursued formal training at the Moscow Gnesins Music School, graduating in 1929 with a focus on cello and composition. He further honed his craft at the prestigious Moscow Conservatory, completing his studies in 1934.
Khachaturian’s legacy spans an impressive range of artistic achievements. He composed Armenia’s first national ballet, “Happiness” (1939), and wrote the anthem of the Armenian SSR. He also pioneered the field of Armenian film music, contributing landmark scores for films such as Pepo and Zangezur.
Among his most acclaimed works are the ballets “Spartacus” and “Gayane.” Spartacus stands as a monumental work in the canon of 20th-century ballet, distinguished by its emotional depth, sweeping drama, and innovative fusion of music and choreography. From Gayane, the high-energy and iconic “Sabre Dance” continues to captivate audiences around the world.
In 2013, UNESCO recognized Khachaturian’s cultural legacy by including a collection of his handwritten manuscripts and film scores in the Memory of the World Register — a testament to his enduring impact.
Aram Khachaturian passed away on May 1, 1978, but his music remains a vibrant and timeless embodiment of Armenian artistic spirit. Today, we remember him not only as a composer but as a cultural bridge-builder whose works continue to inspire generations.
BREAKING: U.S. President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Armenian Nikol Pashinyan ahead of Armenia’s June 7, 2026 elections in a post published on Truth Social, praising him as “a great friend and leader” and voicing support for his re-election.
The endorsement follows recent public backing from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio just days ago, as well as supportive remarks made months earlier by U.S. Vice President JD Vance regarding Pashinyan and his government.
In his statement, Trump said Pashinyan shares his vision of “peace and prosperity” for Armenia and the South Caucasus, while also claiming Rubio recently traveled to Armenia to advance “important deals” between the two countries.
Trump further announced plans for the United States and Armenia to soon break ground on what he called the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity,” which he said would connect the South Caucasus and Central Asia while expanding access for American energy companies.
Trump concluded the statement by giving Pashinyan his “complete and total endorsement” for the June 7 election, ending with the slogan: “Make (Armenia) Great Again — MAGA!”
Draymond Green fires back at Kevin Durant’s claim that offense wins championships 👀
Draymond: “Those who don’t believe defense is as valuable as it is, they simply just don’t win. I don’t think anyone’s ever really been hell-bent on caring about the opinion of those that don’t win, because your opinion equals zero.”
Reporter: “So I hear you, but Kevin has won.”
Draymond: “He won here, (and) the defense here was…”
Reporter: “It was incredible.”
Draymond: “Absolutely.”

Arman Tsarukyan will return to the octagon on November 22 in Qatar, headlining UFC Fight Night 265 against New Zealand’s Dan Hooker, the No. 6 ranked lightweight contender.
The 28-year-old Armenian lightweight (70 kg / 155 lbs, record: 22–3) last fought in spring 2024, earning a split-decision victory over former champion Charles Oliveira. Earlier this year, he withdrew from a scheduled title bout against Islam Makhachev in January.
Hooker, 35, also competing at 70 kg / 155 lbs (record: 24–12), enters the bout after a split-decision win over Mateusz Gamrot in August 2024. Known for his durability and striking arsenal, Hooker will look to derail Tsarukyan’s climb up the rankings.
This lightweight clash not only headlines the Qatar event but could also play a decisive role in determining the next challenger in the UFC’s 155-pound division.

BREAKING: An Armenian court has sentenced police Major Aram Navasardyan to 1 year and 6 months in prison for the death of 28-year-old Sona Mnatsakanyan and her unborn child, who were struck and killed by a vehicle from Nikol Pashinyan’s motorcade in April 2022. Mnatsakanyan was 31 weeks pregnant at the time of the collision.
Despite the prison term, Navasardyan was not taken into custody. His lawyers have already filed an appeal, allowing him to remain free while the case is reviewed by the Court of Appeal.
The verdict, announced by Judge Karen Farkhoyan of the Yerevan First Instance Court, also bans Navasardyan from driving for 1.5 years. He was ordered to pay the state 834,000 drams in court costs for forensic examinations and to compensate the victim’s family with 4 million drams in damages.
Navasardyan, commander of the 3rd platoon of the Police Escort Battalion, was found guilty of violating traffic rules resulting in death and of leaving the scene of the accident. For the latter offense, however, no punishment was applied due to its recent decriminalization.
The victim’s parents, through their lawyer Raffi Aslanyan, continue to accuse the authorities of shielding senior members of Pashinyan’s security detail from responsibility. They argue that motorcade officials violated speed restrictions and failed to properly block street crossings. Aslanyan has also demanded accountability for the disappearance of radio communications from the convoy, which investigators claimed were lost due to technical problems.
After years of silence, Pashinyan commented on the case on July 16, 2025, denying responsibility and describing himself as “a bus passenger… three cars away” from the collision. He said he had personally called the family to offer condolences, adding: “I’m sorry… There’s a court case going on, what should I do?”
